Amber's Sesame Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
Prepared as written it was quite good. The only thing I would change is that I wouldn't bread and fry it. I know that is part of what sesame chicken is, but the flavors of oil and the sauce were competing with each other. I never have perfected the art of frying, and the flavor of the sauce is delicious by itself! I would agree with others in saying to double the sauce, and in pre-mixing the honey and teriyaki sauce. I saved some teriyaki sauce from the baked chicken teriyaki recipe on this site and it worked very well! We had it with fried rice and cream cheese wontons. I will definitely make this again!

It was ok. I didn't feel that it was a waste of ingredients, but I won't make it again.

Spicy Chipotle Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2009
This was REALLY good. I followed it mainly to the letter. The only differences are 1)I eyed how mush onion I used, may have been a little less than 1/2 cup, and 2) I used 1 tbsp dried parsley instead of the cilantro as I'm not a fan. My boyfriend was almost disgusted (why I don't know)by the idea of turkey burgers, but this successfully changed his mind! Thanks!

We were not impressed with this. It was ok, but not worth the effort. Great idea and good potential, even so we probably won't be making this again.

Tex-Mex Patty Melts

These were great! I made them twice, the second time without the beer because we didn't have any, and we couldn't taste the difference. They are a bit too spicy for my MN palette, but not by much. Next time I'll probably add 2 tbsp chili mix instead of 3. Great when yo umix up the cheese, too! We loved them! Just had baked beans as a side.

Mom's Best Pork Chops

It is a good basic recipe. I just cooked it on top of the stove because I'm so paranoid about getting my meat REALLY done. It seemed a bit dry that way, so next time I put some cream of mushroom soup over it and it was really good! I think you can do just about anything to this to mix it up a little.

Cheesy Italian Tortellini

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2009
I followed the recipe as closely as I could due to time and what foodstuffs I had on hand. I didn't use a slow cooker, just a skillet. I used all hamburger and added italian seasoning, fresh garlic and basil, didn't have sausage. I used fresh mushrooms and onions instead of canned mushrooms. It turned out really good! It was a bit greasy but I think it would have been worse if I'd used sausage, too. We had it with italian bread and butter. And, as usual with italian food, the leftovers the next day were even better than the night before! Good stuff, will make again!

Tater Tot Casserole II

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2009
This is a recipe that has been so common since I was a kid that it didn't occur to me people hadn't heard of it. Maybe it's the Minnesota hotdish thing! The way we make it is to brown the hamburger first in a skillet, then crumble into a 9x9 inch pan for every pound of hamburger. Layer 1 can of cream of mushroom soup over the hamburger, than a vegetable (most commonly used is orn or a vegetable blend) than you only have to bake in the oven for as long as it takes the tater tots to brown. Cheese is good on it but that was never added when I was a kid. I like to throw some feta in after its done. One thing to remember is that if you double the hamburger, double the soup, veggies, etc. Easy and REALLY good!

Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2009
This was great and easy! The only differences I made were due to what I had on hand. I only used 1lb of hamburger but used the given measurements for everything else, I used saltines instead of breadcrumbs and I just used a squirt of yellow mustard instead of mustard powder. My BF, who is unbelievably picky, LOVED it! HE even said that I should make more sauce next time and use it for gravy over mashed potatoes! It was great! We had it with cheesy mashed potatoes and green beans. Another note, I had absolutely no problem with these falling apart. They stuck together beautifully! Maybe it was the egg to meat ratio?

Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2009
I made the recipe as written except substituting heavy cream for the 1/2 and 1/2 because thats what I had on hand. It was delicious! I made a big mess because this made more than my pan could hold, but I will not hesitate to make this again, maybe just halving the recipe.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2008
This was really good! I didn't bake it, however. I cooked up the sauce, cubed my chicken and cooked it in a pan right on the stove. The only difference was adding just a touch more cornstarch to thicken. My boyfriend and I loved it and will remember to make a bigger batch next time!
