I'm a SAHM with two children, a toddler boy and baby girl. I'm not a great cook, but I'm learning and, more importantly, really want to become better. I'm trying to learn and improve now, so my children will enjoy my cooking and eating healthy as they grow up.
My favorite things to cook
As far as main dishes are concerned, recipes I'm familiar with, because it takes less time and creates less mess/catastrophes or confusion.
Desserts are another story. I enjoy getting creative and learning new things, when I can find the time/energy. See below for some of my favorites.
I DO love to sneak healthy things into any recipe. The more nutrition I can get out of any meal the better, but only if it doesn't compromise the taste.
My favorite family cooking traditions
soups (minestrone, veggie cheese, etc), oatmeal choc. chip cookies, funeral potatoes and ham, lasagna, sheperd's pie, chicken enchiladas, smoothies...
My cooking triumphs
I made my first real homemade bread last week. It turned out better than I hoped, which I made one loaf and several small bread bowls out of. Delicious!
I also made lasagna the other day for my 2nd time ever, and it was quite delicious, if I do say so myself...and with only a brief phone conversation with my mom, no official recipe.
I make a few good desserts, such as peach cobbler, oatmeal cookies, better-than-anything cakes, brownies (many kinds) and banana/zucchini breads.
My cooking tragedies
too many to think of one right now. I make silly mistakes all the time - too much pepper, not enough spice, too bland, burnt, doughy, you name it!
