Married with two grown up step children who live with us. I work in the City of London so have to commute during the week which doesn't leave much time for preparing evening meals so we tend to stick to old favourites. I like experimenting at the weekends and have varying degrees of success. My step son and I are on the waiting list for an allotment so that we can grow our own vegetables and we can't wait, unfortunately it could takes years to get one. Update 2008 - we got the allotmanet and are now eagerly waiting for runner beans, cabbages, spuds, broad beans. beetroot and cauliflower plants to arrive so we can start sewing!
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook mediteranean style food and using loads of vegetables (unfortunately my step daughter isn't a big veggie lover, although she's getting better, the rest of us love them)
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mum and nans were very traditional cooks and concentrated on wholesome good food, money was tight so they made a little go a very long way. Slow cooking was especially important as they tended to get the cheaper cuts of meat and this is something that I still enjoy. I recently taught my step daughter to make sausage rolls like my mum taught me so it feels really nice to know that all the kitchen knowledge and wisdom that my mum and nans gave me is going on to another generation.
My cooking triumphs
I have planned and given some fantastic dinner parties but my favorite is always Christmas lunch. Although it's just a roast really, there is something so special about preparing and serving it.
My cooking tragedies
Has to be my first attempt a minestrone soup, I put the pasta in and thought that it didn't look like there was enough so I kept putting more in. It was more like a minestrone loaf!!!!!!
