About this Cook
I've been using this site for years now, I dont know why I never joined! how nice it is to have everything saved when I log in - DUH! ;) I live together w/my boyfriend who's pretty easy-going afa food goes, and gives me honest feedback if something is awesome or not. I'm trying to cook more & more at home to save money and eat healthier. [though, sometimes, I don't care if it is healthy!]
My favorite things to cook
stir fry, cookies, casseroles, and learning to cook w/fresh herbs
My favorite family cooking traditions
holiday cookies/candies, casseroles, trying 1 "gourmet" recipe a week
My cooking triumphs
my first apple pie from scratch, w/lattice topping & made w/apples I picked in an orchard myself!
My cooking tragedies
when making brownies at a friends house, I accidentally added garlic-infused oil instead of vegetable oil; the resulting double-chocolate garlic brownies were some of the weirdest things 've ever eaten [and then, thrown out] :P

Oven Pot Roast
OH MY GOSH. I just made this, it was my very first pot roast evar, and it turned out AMAZINGLY GOOD. The only change I made ingredient-wise was to stir in a can of beef consumme instead of the wine, as was suggested on here. I browned the meat in a cast iron skillet, added everything else to the skillet and covered it in foil for 2 hours at 325. As per suggested on here in other comments, I added some baby red potatoes and chopped carrots in at the 1-hour-left mark, basted the meat, and cranked it up to 350 for that last hour. The meat was fall-apart good when everything was done - I didn't even need a knife!! AMAZING recipe. Thank you so much! I need not look anywhere else for a pot roast how-to!

Grandma Johnson's Scones
These scones were a huge hit! I added the zest of one lemon and a cup of dried blueberries for flavor, but kept the recipe the same otherwise. It took my oven 13.5 minutes to reach scone perfection, and they're delicious hot out of the oven AND the next morning. Next time I make these [and there WILL be a next time - and many more!] I'll be shaping the dough into a long "log" and slicing that into smaller pieces, as I found the scones cut from a round, pizza-pie-style, were very large and half of that size would be plenty for a single serving. FANTASTIC recipe overall - I can't wait to make them again!

Guacamole
this was spot-on FANTASTIC. a little labor intensive w/all the chopping involved, but worth it in the end. we made this for a super bowl party this year, and the entire bowl was gone by the end of the game! [one batch kept 6 people very happy the whole game!]
