About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I am learning to make pies and love it! The crusts trip me up a bit, but I just keep trying. I like to make soups and stews. They are so laid back, you just let them simmer...
My favorite family cooking traditions
Ever have "breakfast for dinner" dinners? Those were the best... My mom always made whole roast chicken on the weekends. When we got older, she had to start making two! My Dad has become a grill and BBQ master. They like to cook out just about every weekend in the summer now. He uses wood charcoal and says it makes all the difference.
My cooking triumphs
I dated a guy once whose mom had this supposed "secret" recipe for ranch dip and made a really big deal about it. I surprised his family by figuring it out and making it one day. It was actually not that hard to guess.
My cooking tragedies
Once again tried to wing something. Tried to make a beer cheese sauce for pasta and it was absolutely awful. I can now say that I know for certain my boyfriend WILL eat ANYTHING!!!

Grilled Sausage with Potatoes and Green Beans
This is a very good recipe. It is easily changed to suite your needs. In the winter, I like to make it in the oven and I generally just use whatever type of potato or spices I happen to have on hand. Very yummy.

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie
OMG, this pie is amazing! My advice is to make it exactly as the recipe states first before you add any spice. It is caramely and a nice change from the traditional apple pie. Maybe add cinnamon to the crust if you have to have it. Mine came out a bit runny b/c I used Jonathon instead of Granny Smith, but next time I will add a little corn starch and I'm sure that will solve the problem. I am definitely making this for the holidays. YUM YUM YUM!!!!
