About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I am most likely to cook fish, but I enjoy making things that take more time than just a few minutes to prepare. I particularly love baking bread, for both the level of difficulty and the aroma that permeates the house. Most of my breads are not from a recipe, and usually they turn out very well.
My favorite family cooking traditions
All of my family's cooking traditions begin with my mom. She used to make bread often, but not so much anymore. Each year around Thanksgiving she makes pumpkin pie, and her crusts are fantastic when she has the time to make them. Christmas yields the family Poorman Cakes, which are so nice that I want one right now. Mm.
My cooking triumphs
Every time I make this vegetable lasagne it comes out amazingly... for those who like that kind of thing. Personally, I'm not a fan of it at all, but I always get compliments of the "This is the best vegetable lasagne I've ever had!" variety. I also started making bread on about December 20th, 2007. I figure that that's the only way to keep a family tradition going. So far, they've generally been rewarding to make.
My cooking tragedies
I was installing a new range hood over my new oven, and I had put the box of the range hood on the oven just in case the range hood dropped. I leaned back on the hood, which turned on the large burner, and soon I had roasted cardboard box.

Chinese Spicy Hot And Sour Soup
I was expecting a little more flavor than what the recipe made. I needed to add extra soy sauce, and it still wasn't enough. It isn't a bad recipe, but it isn't worth what it cost to make.

Creamy Peanut Butter Fudge
This was a very easy recipe to make, although the fudge didn't turn out quite as hard as I'd have liked it to be. When I brought it in to work, most of the comments involved the fudge simply being too sweet. Only one fellow here can stand more than a sliver of the stuff at a time. I'm probably going to melt most of it down and try to make some cookie out of it, in hopes of dulling the sweetness.
