I am a single mom of a 2 year old and I've been cooking since I was 14 years old. I am a double major which is one of the reasons why I am still in school as a Psychology and General Studies major with emphasis in criminal justice, sociology, and english. I began my college years studying to be a nutritionist with an emphasis in allergy sensitive foods. It came in handy since my daughter is allergic to peanuts and I am allergic to sesame and most dairy products.
My favorite things to cook
I love to make soups from scratch. I also love poultry dishes and fish dishes. My daughter likes it when I do different variations of mashed potatoes and mac-n-cheese
My favorite family cooking traditions
Fried Chicken, fried pork chops, fried green tomatoes, homemade french fries (notice the trend here?), sweet potato pie, collard greens, stewed okra, and my favorites...homemade banana pudding from scratch and peach cobbler from scratch (yes...including the fresh peaches)
My cooking triumphs
In my creative cooking class (back in college) I earned my A+ by cooking my "famous dish" - Tastes Oh So Gouda
It is a lightly breaded butterfly porkchop marinated in a rosemary olive oil and stuffed with smoked gouda cheese. There was more to it than that, but that is the basic idea.
My cooking tragedies
First time i made homemade bread was a disaster. I mixed the dough and covered it to rise...well...4 hours later it was still in the cute little ball i left it in. I forgot the yeast...lol.
