I am a university student from rural Scotland, and I enjoy riding my horse, taking my dog for long walks, playing my piano and singing along and experimenting with recipes.
If I find a recipe I think has something needing improving, I don't hesitate to improve it! I do that A LOT with the ones I brought home from school!
I'm currently studying Ecology, and not really behaving like a student. Tea and homemade scones, anyone?
My favorite things to cook
My all time favorite recipe is chocolate brownies. I found a recipee for them in a child's cook-book when I was a small child and perfected it off-by-heart before I was 10!
At the moment I'm going through a phase of Chinese style fried chicken dishes. I will add the best of them when I get time!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My granny has always made clootie dumplings for birthdays in the family, and they have become the bit we all look forwards to most! She has taught me from the recipe she learned from her auntie as a child, and now I can make them ALMOST as well as her!
My cooking triumphs
My chocolate brownies have only once been topped (I didn't manage to try the offending brownies - I heard a friend's friend's mum who lived on the isle of Sky made an unbeatable brownie, coming from a friend who I don't think has tried mine...) and my chicken in a honey and orange sauce is gaining a reputation in my family.
And I made a mean Christmas dinner aged 13!
My cooking tragedies
I recently tried to make transparent puddings. A disaster! The butter and sugar weren't creamed as well as I thought they were and so separated whilst cooking. And I used raspberry jam because we didn't have apricot. I ended up with purple lumps of sweetened egg floating in butter. But they still tasted good!
