Born /raised in Okla/Tex,transplanted Californian. Ex military wife, now with soulmate 13+ yrs. 2 kids, 3 grandkids, 3 great's. Sole proprietor of own company (20+ employees)27+ yrs. Sold 8 yrs ago, worked 6 more, now retired (the pits) & studying 4 gen'l contractors license. Yr. ago started "ONE CALL" does it all! (painting/handyman co.) w/ David, aforementioned soulmate. Can cook about anything, including cheese, olives,etc. David is Mexican, can cook a meal in 5 minutes flat, everyone raves. We enjoy cooking/working/playing together so WE 1. Built a small house in Mexico w/about 37 ft. counter/cabinet space because our kitchen in states is about closet size 3. Spend some Sat. nites at Mex. cantina/restaurant watching televised fights (De la Joya my favorite). Neither of us drinks to speak of (1 my limit, 2 his). Next yr is my BIG 70! SUGARLESS RECIPES - David diabetic so tried and trusted AR recipes a godsend.
ELEGANT - because David can make a plate look like a 10 star restaurant offering and mine is "Here it is, eat it or not"
My favorite family cooking traditions
For years Thanksgiving & Xmas for 30 to 75 at my house. Always did all cooking myself and created something special for the kids, such as the stacked cookie xmas trees. Now live in 1/3 the space so daughter has taken over and "pot luck" is her thing so I still get to cook. Time for grandaughter to get in the act.
My cooking triumphs
The year everything on the table (except the salt and pepper) was from the garden or animal pen. Turkey raised here, butter, cheese,olives, pickles, bread, jellies, relishs ..all of it. All the gifts were homemade as well. (This was when I still had the business, was single and raising kids. Where has the energy gone?)
My cooking tragedies
Hosting 11-12 engineers off the Brazilian ship "Penambuco). I wanted to surprise them with a popular brazilian dish "Bacalao" (spelling?:. I made a special trip of 36 miles round trip to purchase the fish (main ingredient). Made a beautiful dish! TROUBLE!!! No one, even the recipe said you had to RINSE THE FISH MANY, MANY TIMES. Why you ask! Because the fish is cured with Salt, Salt, and more Salt. I did not taste as cooking BUT ...Not one of them said a thing about eating what amounted to tablespoons of salt and nothing but salt. When I asked one of them a few months later if they'd like dinner again, he very "gently" told me about rinsing the fish.....They all accepted another dinner invitation but insisted I let them cook for me this time.
