Best Steak Marinade in Existence

Reviewed: May 11, 2009
Only made a couple of changes: used low sodium soy sauce and not quite as much garlic, fresh lime juice, and fresh basil. Marinated in plastic bags 5 extremely thick rib eyes and t bones for 12 hrs. The flavor was just ok, kind of bland, not sure why it didn't have the kick I was looking for..

Slow Cooker Turkey Breast

Reviewed: May 6, 2009
Great! Foolproof for old and new cooks alike. I used one package onion soup mix for a 3 lb. roast, instead of 7 lb., so it was a little too salty. Next time I'll go for a larger turkey breast. My cooking time was about 2 hrs. on high and 2 hrs. on low, and it was just about right.

Banana Nut Bread I

Reviewed: May 4, 2009
Very good! Like others, I added 1/2 cup less sugar, butter instead of oil, some cinnamon and nutmeg, chopped pecans. I didn't find this to be too much sugar since I don't like things too sweet. So good warmed and buttered the next day.

Irish Boiled Dinner (Corned Beef)

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2009
Yum Yum! Great comfort food - just like mom used to make. One tip: If you added the spices from the packet, you can strain the broth through a metal mesh-type strainer so you won't be getting a mouthful of those little seeds!

Easy Meatloaf

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2009
My changes to this basic recipe: 2 lbs. grnd. chuck; 3/4 c quick oats; 1/2 c catsup; 1/4 c milk; 2 eggs; 1 Tbls. horseradish. Topping= 1/2 c catsup; 1 Tbls. horsradish; 3 tabls. brown sugar; 2 tsp. mustard. So really the oatmeal and the horseradish are the major difference. Horseradish is the secret ingredient to give it a great, different flavor. Honestly, I tried meatloaf recipes for years and this is the very best one I've found!

Easiest Pot Roast Ever

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2009
Great basic recipe for a slow-cooking pot roast. My additions: Rubbed roast with Reese's Steak Salt (pepper, garlic powder, celery salt); added 1 can cream of celery soup, extra water. Cooked in crock pot on high 3 hrs. & low 4 hrs. Next time I'll add less water, only 1/2 can of soup and cook totally on low. All the soupy-water made great gravy, but roast was boiling in too much water, instead of just steaming in crock pot.

Flavorful Beef Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2009
Hmmm, this came out just so-so. Maybe my white wine was not good quality, but the taste was bland. Next time I'll add some fresh ginger or cracked pepper and red pepper flakes as someone suggested...

Best Ever Banana Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2009
Can't say this was the best ever - just too sweet for my taste; however daughter and her hubby raved about it. It was definitely moist; I sprinkled chocolate chips over the top, very yummy, and also added a glazed icing with sprinkles on top since this was a birthday "cake". If I try this recipe again, I'll cut the sugar in half and sub applesauce for the oil as others have suggested.

Vanilla Glaze

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2009
Couldn't be better or easier. Just keep adding a little extra milk, a very small amount at a time till it seems right. Wait until cake cools to frost (or drizzle). If you want to use sprinkles, put them on top of icing right away so they'll stick. This icing will harden quickly.

Pork Roast with Sauerkraut and Kielbasa

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2009
Really just fair. Pork loin turned out kind of dry. The meat simmered in too much juice in the crockpot even though I drained the sauerkraut. Next time I'll use 1 can of kraut instead of 2. Turkey kielbasa rather mushy. It all tasted better the second day though.

Beef Barley Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2008
Very delicious and not too difficult. I used 2 lbs. roast and 5 cups of boxed beef broth. Next time I'll add less sugar & some worstershire. Browning the meat made for extra flavor; Slow cooked for 2-3 hrs. on high and 2 more on low. Meat fell apart. My 1st attempt at this soup & was definitely worth it.

Delicious Greens and Ham

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2008
This was pretty good, just a bit salty, but I put more ham in than called for. Also think it would be better with fresh tomatoes or at least with one of the best brands of tomatoes (I used cheaper one). Husband and daughter loved it...
