About this Cook
I am busy..I am a mom, wife and student. Our schedule is hectic but we eat at least one meal a day togeather at the kitchen table. That is important to me. I try to make healthy meals. I NEVER fry anything! We as a family have tried to make the change to organic foods and make healthier choices. Try is the important word. We do our best but, garlic fries at Applebee's are soo good!
My favorite things to cook
I like to take things out my garden. I really like to make spaghetti sauce. The tomato's, onions, basil and green peppers are from the garden. I make the noodles from scratch too. That is a special meal for my family. Making jelly in the summer is special too.It is usually the hottest day of the year though. And who doesn't like to make desserts? I like to cook in general, it is a sense of accomplishment and, its a lot cheaper than going out!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom made everything from scratch I didn't know that jelly came from the store until I was 16. She made the best mint frosting. My grandmother made candy for Christmas for everyone. She was in her 80's but she made 5 gallon buckets of candy and pies. I make traditional Polish and Lithuanian foods. I like foods from the old country. I cannot make leven bread. I will make it (well) once before I die.
My cooking triumphs
Finding a way to use the ever multiplying zucchini in the summer. One plant can produce 5# a week. Multiply that by the whole package of seeds... I have used zucchini in bread,in lasagna instead of noodles,in "scallop suprise." There is no end to where I was sneaking zucchini in. My husband would ask "so where is the zucchini, I know its here."
My cooking tragedies
Mashed potato's, boil the potato's and put them in the blender with milk....enough said :(

Amy's Chocolate Chip Cookies
This is the best recipe. It is quick, easy and you can change it to your taste. What more could you ask for? I have used white chocolate pudding and white chips. I like to make two batches, one the standard recipe and one "experiment." Next, I will use pistachio pudding and white chocolate chips and see how it will turn out. They turn out soft and keep really well too.
