Very nice. Love the purple! Great shots too! I made them for my daughters 8th b-day (Nov) with tie-dyed frosting to match and it went over very with with the girls. I also made them for X-mas. (You can see both in my pictures on page #8.)

Man, I am so bummed! I just made some cupcakes for my small group @ church this past weekend. I wish I would have seen this blog beforehand. While I got rave reviews on the taste of my cupcakes, I probably would have WOWed 'em with the looks of these ones! Next time I suppose.

How cool! I am going to try this sometime! Although I was already thinking of some alternate ideas, you could put the batter in a piping bag, or plastic bag and snip the end off and you could possibly put two colors in at the same time and then swirl those colors with a popsicle stick or spoon, then add more colors ontop of that layer and so-forth. But I even think the solid layered effect will be neat as well though. Just some thoughts! :)

I am convinced I was meant to be born in 1960. I pretty much only listen to music from the 60's and 70's and it would've been kick a** to grow up in the 70's. Hence, I want to be a hippie. But I am LOVIN these cupcakes. I would make them without the icing, HARTMR- just so you can see the pretty swirls on top!

I love the beautiful tye dye look.. My sugar tooth is saying where's the frosting so I'd have to figure a way to get some more sugar in them.. Hmmmm maybe a crumb bottom of some kind.. You've got me thinkin! I know I have to try them because they are way cool!.. :)

I also wish now I'd just used a regular cake recipe, I get all kinds of flack for it, and really was trying to share too much at once! As for getting a more tie-dye effect, if you stirred the batter top to bottom you'd have better luck. Gotta think in three dimensions, not two! I have been doing this for years with whole cakes!!! My mom is allergic to chocolate, and her birthday cakes are always so boring, yellow cake with vanilla frosting. Since she is an artist and loves color, I surprised her and made a tie-dyed cake with vanilla frosting on top, she was shocked when she cut the first piece. We like to call it the "inside-out" vanilla cake. Instead of all the colorful decorations on the outside and white in the middle, it's switched. Just another fun idea.

This is such a cool idea. To give the Tye-dies effect inside, try using the round end of a trussing needle (what you would use to secure the stuffed end of a turkey). It is longer than a toothpick and the "loop" at the end will allow some of the batter to flow through. Just don't over stir.

I was originally going to do a butter cream, but I liked the tops too much and the cake was already pretty moist and dense, so I just went without. I almost made something like this, but different. I was going to add a bunch of candy sprinkles to my cake batter, which makes a tie-dye effect on top and rainbow inside. Like the rainbow box cake.

I would hate to cover these with frosting. I think it would be nice to tint frosting to whatever color you like and pipe a frame around each cupcake- that way, you have the best of both worlds. Oh, and BooSchmoo- you need to FIND a reason to make cupcakes?!?!

Awesome idea for cupcakes, my kids will love these! For an icing idea, use Wilton decorating bags and put several colours carefully in along the side of the bag. If you put the icing in right, when you pipe it on the cupcake, the colours will all swirl randomly together. I'm thinking of a complete tye-dye theme for my daughter's 10th birthday, complete with tye-die craft! Thanks Piratefrog!

These are Awesome! Im going to a music fest in June called Wannee. Its in Live Oak FL. its a big hippie fest of sorts. I think im going to make some of these and bring them to give away to people walking by my campsite instead of FREE HUGS!!!

This was such a great idea! My 3 year old and I made some last night. We used pastels for easter. We also made different colored frosting and did the same thing when frosting them. They turned out wonderfully. Thanks for the idea.

For those who might miss the frosting on the cupcake (they are too beautiful to frost)I think it would be great to serve them, unwrapped of course, in a small cloud of slightly sweetened whipped cream.

Ever since I saw this blog I've been dying to make these! Made them last night for a friend's birthday, they turned out GREAT and look incredible! Almost too good to eat! Since there is no icing on these, I filled the inside of the cupcake with a cream cheese/sugar/chocolate chip mixture. Turned out GREAT, thank you!!!
