About this Cook
I'm originally from Florida, but moved up to Canada when I was a kid. My Dad's American and my Mom's French Canadian, but speaks English too. I've grown up eating a wide variety of foods, from typical American to the much different French Canadian. I've got 2 children of my own who are part Italian, so now we eat even more variety!!
My cooking tragedies
A few years ago, we had decided to have my family over for Thanksgiving dinner,as we usually go to my parent's house. I had NO idea that a turkey took so long to thaw...so my husband bought a frozen 18 lb turkey on Thanksgiving morning and when I tried to put the bugger in the microwave to defrost....he just wouldn't fit! So I thawed as long as I could, running warm water over him and decided to stick him in the oven, he'd thaw out there while he cooked. When my family got to my place, my Mom commented on how the house did not smell of turkey...no kidding, it was still frozen in the oven. I hosted Thanksgiving again this year, and believe me, the turkey was in the fridge thawing for 4 days! I never made that mistake again!!

Sloppy Joes II
I have not had Sloppy Joes since I was a little girl - I found this recipe and thought it was high time to introduce my children to Sloppy Joes! I was a bit disappointed - I foun it just tasted too much like cooked ketchup. I added a bit of Epicure's Jerk Jamaican spice to liven it up, but it was still not right. I hadn't added salt, so I added a bit of soya sauce (about 1 tsp) to cut the ketchup taste and add some salt. It was ok, but I think I'll still search for a Sloppy Joe recipe. Thanks for the recipe and sorry!

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies
I've never really liked making rolled cookies - I've always found it such a pain...these were EASY to make, easy to roll out. I baked them on my Pampered Chef stoneware - really makes a HUGE difference - you can't burn cookies on those things. I baked these until the edges were FAINTLY colored - YUMMY! I iced them with the Sugar Cookie Icing from this site. Thanks for the great recipe!

Sugar Cookie Icing
The first batch I made was a total disaster - of course, I didn't read any reviews and couldn't figure out why my icing resembled crumbled white cake. I kept adding corn syrup as the recipe states, but soon figured out that it's milk that needs to be added also. I'll try again, kids had a blast "painting" our Easter egg cookies!
