French Dip Sandwiches

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2008
This was a mediocre recipe. The meat cooked up tender, but the taste just wasn't a traditional french dip to us. The au jus was downright boring. Sorry, not a winner for this house.

Pizza Without the Red Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2008
This is a great base for anything you want to put on a pizza. I stuck some sun dried tomatoes, fresh basil, garlic and olive oil in the cuisinart, pulsed to a paste. I added in the herbs the recipe called for and smeared that all over a boboli shell. Added feta, mozzarella, and asiago cheese (we love cheese), mushrooms, fresh tomatoes, more fresh basil, and olives. It was insanely good.

Pork Tenderloin Marinade

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2008
It's hard to rate this recipe because I used it on thin cut pork chops instead of a tenderloin. I'm sure with a tenderloin the flavor would have been different and not so dry. We liked it ok and I'll try it again, but with a tenderloin next time. Thanks for posting!

Salsa Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2008
This was pretty good! I cooked it in the slow cooker as other reviewers had done. Didn't have a ton of flavor, next time I'll add more garlic powder and maybe some onion powder. For the flavor, I give it a 3, but the ease of the recipe can't be beat, so it gets a 5. I shredded the chicken and put them in corn tortillas with black beans and all the fixings. Couldn't get the 3 year old to touch it but hubby dumped habanero sauce all over his and loved it. I'll try this again for sure with a few tweaks.

Tangy Sirloin Strips

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2008
This was SO good, I can't rave enough. I didn't change a thing, marinated overnight. I did the bacon thing but in the end I just took them off the pieces of meat and cooked them by themselves. Can't see how that really would affect the taste, but WOW. The glaze is so simple and so good. I made it into a steak chopped salad, yum yum yum!!!

Dave's Low Country Boil

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2008
How easy can you get?? This was super simple and so totally tasty. We used corn, sausage, potatoes, and shrimp. I didn't measure the Old Bay, just dumped in half a shaker and it seemed to be fine. We're going to the beach in a few weeks and I can't wait to make this again with fresh crab this time.

Sweet Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2008
Pretty good, basic dinner roll recipe. Made exactly as written. Weren't as light and fluffy as I like my dinner rolls but the fam didn't have any problems eating them all up. They were actually better as leftovers the next day microwaved for 10 seconds with a little butter and honey.

Scalloped Potatoes 'n' Franks

Really good comfort food. I used skim milk, light margarine, half the cheese and turkey dogs and it came out fabulous. My 3 year old went nuts for it.

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2008
Big fat YUM!! I used half tomato sauce and half ketchup to cut back on the sweetness, threw in a glug of worcestershire as others had suggested. I didn't have green peppers but I had these hot banana peppers so I diced some of those and threw them in. Served up on a whole wheat bun with onions and dill pickles. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would, this is just so simple, tasty, and not bad on the calorie count. A winner for sure!

Stir-Fried Asparagus

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2008
This was pretty good! A nice healthy change from boring old steamed asparagus. Next time I'll add more soy sauce and more garlic. I didn't have almonds, maybe that would have given it the 5 star "it" factor I was looking for.

Spicy Flat Iron Steak Rub

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2008
I honestly have no idea what kind of steak we used with this rub, but I can't see how any other cut would be different, it was delicious! The brown sugar mellows out the spices, so it's not too spicy or sweet. Hubby and I are trying to alter our diet a little so I went for a rub on our lean steaks instead of a marinade with a bunch of oil. I sprayed both sides of the meat with olive oil cooking spray before putting it on the grill and served over a nice big salad. Wonderful flavor, will definitely make again soon.

Herb Roasted Pork

I didn't care much for the glaze, and the pork by itself had no flavor at all so just not a winner for me. Thanks anyway.

Golden Coconut Peach Pie

Reviewed: May 29, 2008
I followed this recipe to a T and was pretty disappointed. There was so much liquid it overflowed, thank goodness I had it baking on a rack in a cookie sheet or my oven would have been a disaster. It looked beautiful coming out of the oven but the flavors of the coconut and peach just don't go together IMO. Hubby scraped off the top and just ate the peaches below and said that was good, so I'm giving it a few stars. Sorry, this one just didn't work for us.

Marinade for Chicken

Marinated overnight just as written. Very tasty. Used boneless skinless breasts...next time I'll pound them thin before marinating and I think it will be even better.

Green Bean Fries

Reviewed: May 6, 2008
I'm giving this recipe a 5 but I really have no idea if that's true. I took a previous reviewer's notes on baking the beans rather than deep frying them because I'm always trying to lower fat/cals on recipes. BIG mistake with this one. Make it just the way it's written, deep fry the heck out of these suckers, I'm sure they're delicious. Whatever you do, don't bake them, they're tasteless textureless sticks of breading. One day when I'm feeling really skinny I'll try this recipe deep fried and I'm sure I'll be happy with it.

Heavenly Angel Food Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2008
Father in law says best angel food cake he's ever had. Any compliment from the IL's rates a 5 for the recipe. I halved the recipe and baked 12 small cakes in a nonstick muffin tin for 20-25 minutes. Makes a perfect portion controlled cake, crispy sugary goodness on the top and fluffy cake inside. Do invert the muffin pan as it says in the recipe and wait until completely cool. Pry off cake carefully with a knife but once the top is free the rest of it falls out. Delish!

Absolutely Best Brownies

I left out the nuts and added some chopped semi sweet baking chocolate, maybe 1/4 cup. This recipe is SO easy and SO good!! Don't buy a box, these are so much better, I promise!

Grandma's Lemon Meringue Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2008
Made this last night, it was so easy after reading reviews. I only used a few tsp of lemon zest but otherwise, followed the recipe. It thickened up super quick, didn't have any issues at all with that. I used half powdered sugar and half gran sugar for the meringue as another reviewer had suggested and also left the oven open for an hour after cooking to cool off and my pie turned out absolutely gorgeous, no weeping, set up perfectly and tasted amazing. The next day the pie still looks great and tastes even better.

Frosted Butter Cutouts

Very easy recipe and fun for my toddler to make and cut out, but as far as flavor goes, just average. I had high hopes for the frosting too, but it was also kind of blah. Sorry.
