I am 25 years old. And yes, that would mean that I started cooking around the age of 11. My mom went back to work when I was 11 and so I took on the challenge of cooking dinner every night for our family of 5. I had 2 brothers, they were no help!
My favorite things to cook
I guess my favorite things are dishes with chicken and I enjoy cooking vegetables as well.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up watching my mom and my grandmother cook. I absolutely loved sitting and watching everything they did. I learned so much just by watching and asking questions. We had a home cooked meal every evening, the majority of my life! It was great!
My cooking triumphs
Right after my husband and I got married (in March) I had both of our families over for a Mother's Day meal (in May). I prepared everything including a ham that I baked and basted every 15 minutes, oven baked macaroni and cheese, deviled eggs, green beans, squash casserole, creamed corn and I even made homemade ice cream to go with the chocolate cake I made for dessert. In all there were 14 people to serve. It was a blast and everyone loved the food! It makes me feel so good to see everyone enjoying themselves and the food!
My cooking tragedies
When I was in middle school (around age 13 or 14) I made some quick-serve (mayo) rolls and it called for self rising flour but I used all-purpose flour not realizing the difference. They were as flat as a pancake and those rolls were going to make my meal. I was so disappointed.
