About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook almost anything. I'm learning to become a better baker. My all-time favorite meal has to be prime rib. MMMMMmmmmm I love it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I learned my favorite Japanese meals, from my Mom. I've passed them on the my kids. We also have the tradition of baking Christmas cookies for weeks before and making a strata for Christmas morning, then the prime rib for Christmas dinner.
My cooking triumphs
Teaching my kids how to cook has been a triumph. I want them to be able to care for themselves and not have to settle for fast food or someone elses cooking. They are 13 and 10 and are great cooks. The younger is a girl and by far the better cook. I think because she has more of an interest, although my son's not half bad!
My cooking tragedies
I made a pot roast (with chuck) and it came out like beef jerky! Not sure what happened, maybe the piece of meat. It was the same recipe I've used for years, but it didn't work. My other tragedy is creme brulee. I can NEVER seen to get it to set. Maybe I lack patience, but I've tried a few recipes and they never work for me. I'll have to check around here and see what kind of creme brulee recipes are on this site. Maybe they'll work for me!

Sweet Potato Pie I
Great recipe. I had lost one that was given to me years ago. This one comes very close. I did only use half the nutmeg, as I'm not a big nutmeg fan. The pies were gone so quickly!

Pie Crust III
Wasn't too sure how to rate this. The dough seemed WAY too oily for me. The oil dripped all over the fridge, through the plastic wrap. When I went to roll it, I had to add a LOT of flour, just so I could work with it. But, I must say, the flavor was wonderful. I'm not sure how I'll fix the oiliness, but it tasted good.

Cinnamon Hazelnut Biscotti
This came out pretty good, although I think it will need to be baked a bit longer (on the first bake), as they came out a little soggy. The second bake didn't help dry them out. Wonderful flavor!
