I'm married to my high school sweetheart, who is an enthusiastic consumer of my cooking. Between us we have three kids, one of whom has food allergies. He likes to cook too, and mealtimes are often the highlight of our days and weekends. chicken alfredo, roast pork, turkey (I just started brining my turkeys--yum!), brownies, chocolate chip cookies, muffins, scones, lasagne, meatloaf, many others. My mother would start the turkey at 7 a.m. and the house would be filled with the smell of sauteeing onions and green peppers on Thanksgiving morning. She would also make Yum-Yum coffee cake on Thanksgiving and Christmas morning, and the smell of that baking combined with the smell of the vegetables cooking and it was simply mouthwatering. I made a linzer torte one year, complete with homemade raspberry compote. That same year, I also made butter rum sandwich cookies that were positively scrumptious. I can't make a palatable casserole to save my life.
