About this Cook
I'm a Mac nerd living in Maryland. I love baking, movies, music, reading, my iPad, and blogging at my site, magicallydelicious.com.
My favorite things to cook
Comfort food and desserts. I love making memorable meals and eye and taste-pleasing desserts that friends ask for the recipe when they taste them.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas dinners - the whole family pitches in to make dinner on Christmas day. We always have fun preparing it. Nothing too fancy, but always delicious and a fun day had by all. I also enjoy making lots of different cookies and treats for Christmas and giving them to friends and family to enjoy.
My cooking triumphs
An Italian ricotta cheesecake with a really subtle citrus that was so light and delicious...but it literally took me nine hours to complete. With so many steps, it was a challenge but it was (almost) worth the pain of creating it. We'd tasted this amazing cheesecake at an authentic Italian restaurant in Chicago and it took forever to find a recipe that rivaled it. A fantastic cheesecake that I may have to make again now that I'm thinking about it...
My cooking tragedies
My most famous cooking tragedy is a pan of brownies. I was trying an "as seen on tv" contraption that looks a bit like an ice cube tray, that promises to make the perfect brownie. My recipe decided to crawl out of the pan and ooze everywhere. It was a lot of fun cleaning that up, and it reminded me that good cooking/baking doesn't require any gimmicks!

Fiber One(R) Chocolate-Peanut Butter Haystacks
They're easy to make and full of fiber, but it's tough to get past the texture of these for me.

Quick and Almost-Professional Buttercream Icing
This is the best buttercream I've ever tasted. My recipe is close, but the extra vanilla puts it well over the top. I used salted butter, and added a little pinch of salt which I think helps balance out the flavors a bit. Amazing texture, perfection.

Graham Cracker Icing
My mom used to make these, too. I just added some sprinkles around the edges to dress them up a bit. This works well with vanilla wafers, cinnamon grahams, and even chocolate covered grahams.
