About this Cook
I heart food :)
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking all kinds of things but a lot of my specialties are American comfort foods.
My cooking triumphs
Thanksgiving 2007: I was transporting most of my cooking pans, tools, and food to a friend's house to prepare dinner for 7. We couldn't do it at my place because my oven is too small. The central heating at my friend's house had gone kaput but we kept things warm and toasty with the fireplace, a few space heaters, and the oven. I made a turkey, stuffing, pecan bars, mashed potatoes, corn, salad,...the works! The turkey was my best yet!
My cooking tragedies
My first and last attempt "baking" a cake in a microwave...in the late 80s, I think.

Delicious Grilled Hamburgers
I don't like this recipe. The burgers were tender and juicy but the flavor is too strong. I used this recipe because I had liquid smoke on hand. I have a brick fire pit that uses charcoal. The cooking process alone imparts a wonderful flavor to the burgers, no need for the liquid smoke.

Avocado, Tomato and Mango Salsa
Fresh and colourful! This was a hit at my bbq last weekend. Since it's been so hot here, it was a light, refreshing salsa. Just be prepared to do a lot of chopping.

Best Lemonade Ever
Great, simple recipe. I made it for a bbq I hosted last week and it was a hit!! I only wish that I made twice as much. I suggest using 1.5 cups of sugar--you can always add more to taste.
