About this Cook
I love to cook and I love to learn about cooking! I've thought about opening a bakery someday, and aside from baking I like to come up with creative vegetarian meals for my fiance and I. I'm a college student and I work as a receptionist.
My favorite things to cook
Some of my favorite things to make are soups, homemade veggie burgers, breads, cookies, and ethnic foods - especially Indian. My favorite spice is coriander and I love vanilla extract for baking.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Mom was always amazing at Christmas time and gave out boxes of homemade cookies and candy as gifts. I like to follow in that tradition by baking for my friends and in-laws. I feel like it's a really nice and personal gift and something that not a lot of people do anymore.
My cooking triumphs
My black bean burger recipe is a huge hit, and I'm a master of soups. My veggie pot pie is better than any chicken pot pie and my chocolate chip cookies have been proclaimed the best.
My cooking tragedies
I have a hard time with pie crust, so I've taken to just buying them frozen.

Pumpkin Pie Pudding
Easy, really creamy and nice, but I thought it was a little bland. Maybe it will be better after it cools and sits awhile.

Apple Spice Cake
It's far too much nutmeg, it's all you can taste. Otherwise, the cake came out well, it has a very nice texture. I substituted some brown sugar for 1/2 cup of the white, and I think it would be better as written, with all white sugar. I would say halve the nutmeg, and if you want it spicier, add some more cinnamon.

Spicy Rice Pilaf
This is really good! I had to change a few things - veggie broth because I'm vegetarian, I didn't have pimentos, and I omitted the chili powder (I don't think it needed it). Very tasty and substantial for a poor college student like me, it was very filling and there's a ton left over!
