About this Cook
My cooking triumphs
I somehow managed to hold my first "extended family Christmas party" at my house this year, with a huge assortment of homemade desserts and hors douvres. It was a great success!
My cooking tragedies
I once made what I thought was going to be Beef Stroganoff for my then-boyfriend (now husband... he married me even after this horrible cooking disaster). I had no recipe, but I thought I remembered how my mom had done it when I was growing up. I ended up using way too much sour cream, entirely too much butter, and for some reason, I even added a little ketchup. It was so sour and greasy that the dog wouldn't even touch it! And this was a dog who would dig potatoes and onions out of the ground and eat them... dirt and all!

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople
Delicious! I just added about 1/2 tsp of cinnamon to the sugar mixture, and it came out fantastic!

The Perfect Cream Cheese Pie Crust
I really don't like giving bad reviews, but I followed this recipe to the letter, and this dough was very sticky and I found it impossible to roll it out. No matter how much flour I used, it stuck to the counter and to my rolling pin. I tried adding a little more flour, to the dough, but that only made it tear easily. I tried chilling it, and it got crumbly. I was disappointed. Perhaps others will have better luck than I did, but I won't be trying this again.

Amish White Bread
This bread was really, really good. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it was a little bit heavier than what I was looking for, and the texture wasn't quite as fine as I wanted. I've made it three times now, and each time it seems to be better than the last, so maybe practice makes perfect. I did try something new this time, though. Instead of punching down the dough, I gently pressed it out and rolled it into a loaf for the loaf pan. That seemed to help with the heaviness factor, though it made the texture less fine.
