About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I love baking. If it has sugar in it I'll probably give it a try.
My favorite family cooking traditions
As my brother and I reached driving age along with our friends, our house seemed to have a revolving door around the holidays. Every Thanksgiving and Christmas you could expect a house full of teenagers feasting on turkey or ham (depending on the holiday) AND lasagna with all the fixins for both. People would come and go all day long and if dinner was over and packed away it would get pulled out and served again. This continued even after we grew up and moved out of the house. There was always a lot of talking and laughing and really good times.
My cooking triumphs
For Christmas 2007 I attempted something new: candy. I found all the recipes on AllRecipes.com and made gift baskets for family and close friends. It was a huge hit! Several people even suggested I should start my own businsess becuase they looked so pretty and tasted amazing.
My cooking tragedies
Unfortuantely I'm not as good a cook as I am a baker so my tragedies are many. I always have a backup plan (cereal, frozen pizzas, take out) just in case my attempt is inedible. My saddest attempt would have to be home made tomato sauce. I threw the whole thing in the trash. It was totally unsalvageable. From now on it's Prego for me.

Bread Pudding III
This is exactly what I envision when I think of bread pudding. A perfect combination of flavors and so easy to make. The only issue I had was in a part of the process. After mixing the bread cubes with the cinnamon, raisins and butter I found that most of the raisins congregated in the middle after I transfered the mixture to the baking dish. A minor issue, but next time I will place half the bread crumbs in the dish, sprinkle half the butter, cinnamon, and raisins then repeat. Also, because I lOVE the taste, I increased the nutmeg to about 1/2 tsp. I plan to experiment with flavors in my next batches by using peaches, apples, cherries, blueberries, or raspberries instead of raisins.

Turkey Pot Pie II
This was really good. I used store bought pie crust and followed the advice of another reviewer by using 1c evaporated milk rather than the 1/2 c regular milk. I didn't want to make more dirty dishes so I used minced onion instead of fresh. I also added salt, pepper, garlic powder and parsley. Very easy and a great last minute dinner solution.

Apricot Glazed Carrots
This was good. not anything to write home about, but had a good sweet flavor without being too citrusy.
