She's making incredible progress, folks!  Bear in mind, these are scans of photographs, so they're not the greatest, but you can get a general idea of what it's shaping up like.  Also, the whole thing will be bound with a three or four inch red trim on all four sides when it's finished.  Enjoy the show!

She looks pretty cozy.
Think we're ever going to get it away from her? ;)

I told you all it was pretty. Side one is basted to the batting and I will start quilting it next. I will have to sew through the blocks but, I will not sew over any of your designs. I'm thinking maybe just stitch around something in the center of the blocks and then around the outside edge of the block about 1/4 inch from the seam where the blocks are joined.

I found me, I found me. ()Quilt side 2 detail, 3rd pic from bottom, second row shown, 3rd from left, next to the one with the big green border and shamrocks). SHAMROCKS!!!! Yikes!!! RIGHT NEXT TO ME ???? I'm pretty sure, no DURN sure it's the Irish one . HA! Good thinking on my part...directing the spray can in a certain direction (just in case SHE tries to get any closer. Oh, WHAT a project Kitten. Thank you so much. DebB, great job with the pics. To all who contributed, fabulous job on the blocks (makes me want to pack up my paints and go to my room). I bet this project gets some kind of media attention and Kitten will be right in the middle of it.

Kitten & Deb; what a beautiful piece of art that you constructed Annie. It is so beautiful and such a great testament to what we can all do if we put our minds to it. Deb, thank you so much for sharing these great pictures and doing all this extra, above the call of duty work, and in helping to complete this project. It means a lot to all of us. I only wish I could see my little block.

I really enjoyed looking at the quilt. It has a real old-timey feel to it. I'm so impressed that all the blocks turned out the same size! That is the thing that always gives me fits! Anyway, it's awesome, I just love it. A little bit of everyone, all stitched together.

Kitten you are my hero! It looks so pretty and will be amazing with the red border. I may need a certificate proving that the blocks were made by strangers from Ireland to New Zealand, my daughters can't believe that is true. It is humbling to be part of such a project. Thank you again>

That quilt sure has a great story to tell! It's beautiful! Kudos to you, Annie, and might I also add...we've got lots of talented people here on AR.

Sep. 7, 2009 1:58 pm
Hi- I have been puzzling over the quilt for a while- can you give a quick explanation of the project?

Sep. 7, 2009 2:34 pm
This is way too long and I didn't go back and do any spell check, so enter at your own risk. Kitten.... My mother used to tell me stories about her quilts. We would sit for hours and she would name off different people who had their names on the quilts. When she was little, the ladies of her church, when one of the ladies would get maried, they would all make a block and give them to one of the other ladies and that one would put them all together and present them to the birde as their way of saying, we are here for you. I got to thinking about how the members interact on AR and I thought, we are here for each other, We pray for ech other, we let others rant when something goes wrong, we circle the wagons for each other and I think quite a few would ever go so far as to help another bury the bodies. joke, joke, but as the song goes, WE ARE FAMILY, I GOT ALL MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS WITH ME. For me it just slowly ran together. Friends honor each other with a quilt. So, on a lark, I put the idea out about mkking a friendship quilt. I figured it would get a few, How nice, or a couple, Oh what a nice idea, and that would be all that was heard about it. Well, I got a few more than a couple of, Hoe nice's and acturlly got some interested. Sunnybyrd ask me if I was serious and we talked for awhile about it. The more we talked the larger the project became and it just seemed so large and logistically inpossible we almost justlet it drop. Then Sunnybyrd said if I was serious, lets work out some details and she would post them on the blog and see where it gets us. There were several members interested and said if we can figure out what we want they would be happy to send a block. So we said okay, let's go. I explained to Sunnybyrd what I needed and she posted it and one by one blocks started coming in. At the end 75 members sent blocks. Some sent more than one so we had a total of 121 blocks. We have received blocks from almost all the States, I think all the Provinces of Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands, Ireland and New Zealand. We recieved somany blocks that we have had to revise the design a few times. Now, we have a quilt, 7 blocks across and 8 blocks down, approximately 65 to 70 inches across and 72 to 75-76 inches long. The pictures that have been posted on DeborahB blog are ones I took to show the others how it is coming along. Another memberm MrsM. suggested we should make a Memory Book Scrap Book t o go along with the quilt that each member could add somehting to telling about their block. Because of medical problmesm Carla was unable to finish and SueB, Trishie, and DeborahB have taken over the job of putting the Memory Book together. And here we are. I thought about tring to make a long story short, didn't work. and Barbara, "WE ARE FAMILY"...you too.

Sep. 8, 2009 2:27 pm
Kitten are you fingers bled down to the bone yet!!! Fabulous!

Sep. 8, 2009 3:46 pm
No, just a ittle worn at this point. I always try to use a thimble and everytime I put it on I subconscienly end up holding the finger up that has the thimble and push the needle with the next finger. But, I keep trying to use the thimble. I sure need to, I have a tiny callous on the end of my finger from pushing the needle. But, it is a labor of love. My mother said when one makes something like the quilt, either by hand or crocheted, it's not the fabric or the yarn that keeps you warmm, it's the love in every stitch.

BigShotsMum, I can testify that I am from New Zealand and have a quilt block in this quilt! I can't see it in the photos though but it does exist. Kitten and Deb, thank you both so much for all of your hard work.

About Me
I'm a Colorado native: born here, raised here, raised my kids here, but am determined NOT to die here as well. (I love Colorado, but enough is enough!) I'm married with a 25-year-old son and 18-year-old daughter, both of whom have flown the coop. I have a faux-finishing/decorative painting business (roomscapesdecor.com) that doesn't keep me nearly busy enough with the lousy economy, so I can be found on the Recipe Exchange just about 24/7.
My favorite things to cook
Mexican and Italian dishes, hands down. I can't get enough of either cuisine. I also love freshly-baked bread, but I cheat and use a breadmaker. Just ordered "Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day," so I hope to change that.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cranberry Coffee Cake and freshly-juiced apple/OJ on Thanksgiving and Christmas morning. My Dad's popcorn balls on Halloween. Potluck brunch on Easter.
My cooking triumphs
I have three dishes that friends and family love and request often: Pizza Margherita on a semolina crust; Green Chili w/ Pork (spicy enough to clear out even the most stuffed up sinuses); and regular old tacos using soft-fried fresh corn tortillas. Two other dishes that I'm personally proud of for getting "just right" after lots of experimentation are Chicken Marsala (very much like Carrabba's) and Vodka Rustica (even better than Macaroni Grill's, IMHO).
My cooking tragedies
Only 1000 characters allowed?!?!? Okay, I'll just go with my first and last tragedies. My first was the first meal I cooked for my Dad and Stepmother after I got married many, many, mannnny years ago. It called for 2 tsp of salt and I put in 2 TB. Eeeek! The most recent tragedy was baking a 9"x9" cake in an 8"x8" pan. Whattamess! (And it's all Nobody'sGirl's fault for embroiling me in her quest to replicate Costco's white sheet cake.)
