About this Cook
My cooking triumphs
Anytime I can make a dish as good as my Mom would have made it.
My cooking tragedies
I'm famous for my "Nuclear Bechamel" recipe. Just make a white sauce in the microwave instead of the stovetop, then try to stir it with a cold metal wire whisk. Then watch as an exploding mushroom cloud of hot sticky goo flies all over your kitchen.......yep.

Layered Seafood Dip
I didn't have the cocktail sauce so I used a cup of catsup with some horseradish, dash of salt and sugar and a few drops of fresh lemon juice. Also used red, yellow and green peppers for color. A huge hit at our New Year's Eve party, will definitely make this again.

Smokin' Scovilles Turkey Chili
Great stuff. Everyone I know who tries this thinks it's made with beef. I leave out the seasoned salt and habanero, no complaints yet. Don't be afraid to throw in half a Dove bar or a few Hershey's Kisses if you don't have the coco mix, it works!

Cabbage Beef Soup
Similar to a dish my mom used to make on the stovetop, she called it "slumgully." I left out the cumin and put in a bay leaf, used a 28 oz. can of undrained diced tomatoes instead of tomato sauce, and substituted sliced carrots for the beans. The carrots give it a hint of sweetness and a bit more texture. Easy and great on a cold night.
