I'm a recent grad who's looking for a job, so in the meantime I've been doing a lot of cooking and baking. Since my partner and I end up eating whatever I bake, I've been experimenting with lowering the sugar and fat in our favorite baked goods.
My favorite things to cook
I like to cook with every type of vegetable and am always looking for ways to expand my diet. I also like to bake bread.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Ug...I really don't follow my family's tradition of cooking meatloaf and various casseroles using condensed mushroom soup. My Grandma bought her first clove of garlic ever when she was 80!
My cooking triumphs
I am definitely the most proud of my baking when I produce a loaf of bread that tastes like it comes from a bakery (or better!). My partner is a bread-a-holic, so when I get complements on my bread from him it really means a lot!
My cooking tragedies
Oooo....my family has been through a lot. I started baking when I was 11 and wanted to go past packaged brownies and cakes and straight to the real thing. My mother's 1967 version of "The Joy of Cooking" was pulled out a lot, resulting in loaves of bread that could be used as doorstops, runny pumpkin pies, and dense, flavourless cakes for any occasion. Needless to say, I was crushed when I found out that my parents were only being nice when they choked down my baked goods. My sister still claims to have liked them...
I still take out that recipe book from time to time, and now the results are not avoided.
