1st Anniversary!
About this Cook
I'm recently married and also recently graduated from college (Yeah!) so I'm starting to have more free time to try out all the awesome recipes I have found here over the last couple of years!
My favorite things to cook
Anything really that my family enjoys. For some reason, people think of me as the dessert specialist so I am always asked to bring pies, cakes, cookies, etc. to family functions
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holidays with my mom learning all her secrets because she never followed a recipe (and now neither do I) and she also had all of her favorite ones stored in her head rather than a recipe box!
My cooking triumphs
I Love to take a recipe and modify it according to my tastes. If I do that with one I find on allrecipes.com I always make sure to say so in the review. I don't think it's fair to judge a recipe harshly if it has been changed!
My cooking tragedies
I haven't had any tragedies yet, but I'm sure there will come a day when I update this section!

Robin's Quinoa with Mushrooms and Spinach
Hubby and I really enjoyed this recipe since we both like balsamic vinegar a lot! I don't think this is a recipe for everyone since the wine and balsamic flavors are pretty strong. I added a cut up chicken breast to make this a main dish and also used feta cheese since I didn't have any goat cheese. I'd love to try it again using goat cheese instead! Love that stuff :o) Next time, I will also add more minced garlic and a few other seasonings that compliment thyme to add more depth to the flavor. I liked this as a main dish, but for a side dish I prefer the lighter flavors of Cheesy Quinoa Pilaf with Spinach. I'm glad to have two great recipes for quinoa since it's such a healthy grain. Thanks!

Basic Chicken Salad
This is an excellent and easy recipe. I've always wondered what the "secret" ingredient of gourmet chicken salad is and I think this recipe made it clear...roasted almonds!! We all thought this was yummy with more lemon juice, salt and extra freshly ground black pepper. It's basic but delicious!! Next time I'll add diced onions and creole seasoning to add a little heat! Yummy to my tummy :o)

Chunky Seafood Chowder
I've made this recipe twice. As written, it is four stars but with a few changes it easily becomes five stars! I added celery, used 1% milk and as surprising as this sounds 98% fat free soup! It didn't taste enough like seafood for our taste so I added a can of chopped clams with the juice and that made a big difference! I love that this recipe uses imitation crab meat since it's such a low calorie protein source. Since I cut way back on fat and calories in this recipe, I might add some bacon next time for more depth in the flavor. I'll make this often in the cold winter months since it's so easy and one of my hubby's favorite soups!
