Applesauce Bars

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2009
I thought these bars were excellent! They have a very cake-like texture, and I have a feeling that you could also turn them into muffins as well. I didn't use any icing on them, and they definitely satisfied my sweet tooth! I used a combo of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves instead of pumpkin pie spice. Yum-O!!

Muesli-Applesauce Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2009
These muffins were GREAT! I used more applesauce than called for, and just a tiny bit of oil instead of the 1/3 cup. They came out moist and yummy! I'll definitely make these again!

Pumpkin Bread IV

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2008
HEAVEN in a loaf pan! This bread is absolutely, positively AMAZING! I did sub 1/2 applesauce for the oil, added 1/2 tsp vanilla and based on personal preference for spices used: 2 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1 1/2 tsp nutmeg and 1/2 tsp cloves. The result? A perfectly moist, not overly sweet or spiced, OH SO YUMMY bread! It baked up beautifully in just over an hour, and not only did we get delicious pumpkin bread after that hour, our house smelled beautifully! I live in Australia where anything "pumpkin" (cakes, cookies, breads) is very rare and all of our friends who have tried this bread just LOVE it and ask for the recipe! This is most definitely a keeper!

Spaghetti Carbonara II

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2008
Let me start this review by saying this was my very first attempt at making Spaghetti Carbonara. My husband and I enjoyed this dish, but felt that there was just something missing. We had the absolute BEST pasta carbonara in Venice last summer, and we were trying to find something close to it....unfortunately, this wasn't it. I think we like the pasta and sauce to be more creamy than it turned out with this recipe. All in all, we liked it okay, but weren't WOWED by it.

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2008
These muffins were seriously good - although they reminded me more of a cake because of their sweetness and texture. I didn't bother putting the streusel topping on since they were plenty sweet all on their own. I did feel that they were a bit greasy though. I think I'll still keep looking around for that perfect *muffin* recipe! This is a great one to use again though, maybe with less oil next time!

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies II

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2008
I thought these were delicious cookies! The batter was even better though! :) They baked up beautifully and stayed soft and chewy! I added 1/2 tsp of salt as others recommended. I will gladly make these again and more than likely serve them with vanilla ice cream or a big glass of milk!

The Best Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2008
Oh my GOODNESS! You MUST make these Lemon Bars because they really are the BEST! I will never make another lemon bar recipe - this is THE ONE! Thanks to MommyFromSeattle's review, I used just over 1/2 cup of fresh squeezed lemon juice and an extra tbsp of flour. I baked these in an 8X12 pan and used about 2/3 of the dough for the crust, and then after they'd baked for a little while, I crumbled the other 1/3 of the crust on top. SOO good! I also added 1/2 tsp salt to the crust mixture and it was phenomenal!

Chocolate Cream Pie II

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2008
My husband is a chocolate pie LOVER and so I usually cut corners and just use pudding mix and a ready-made graham cracker crust to whip up an easy dessert for him on the weekends. He always raves over it when I make it. This pie though - he couldn't get enough of! Since I can't get pudding mix or graham crackers in Australia, I decided to give this recipe a try - and WOWIE! It's soooo worth the extra work and not cutting corners! It was the perfect after Thanksgiving pie!

Coconut Cream Pie

HEAVENLY! My husband and I both could not stop eating this pie!!! I will absolutely keep this recipe and continue to make it any chance I get! (special occasions only since our waist lines don't stand a chance if this pie is in the fridge!!)

Greek Pasta Salad I

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2008
I made this for a bbq with several of our friends and everyone raved about it!! I love this pasta salad because you can play around with all sorts of different veggies (I added artichoke hearts - yum!) and the dressing is delicious!! I do agree with other reviews that it needs to sit over night to let all of the flavors "meddle"...it's even better on the 2nd day!

Stuffed Peppers

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2008
I had leftover ground beef and was looking for a different way to use it for dinner, and I'm so glad I found this recipe! My husband and I both really liked it, and agreed that we'll add it to our dinner "rotation"! I used brown rice, blanched the peppers in boiling water, and sauteed onion/garlic with the meat. I topped with Mozzarella cheese and next time, I'll probably add some of the cheese to the meat mixture before stuffing them! Yum, yum!

Grandma's Corn Bread Dressing

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2008
Yay!!! My first attempt at making dressing for Thanksgiving and it was a HUGE success! My husband said that it was even better than his mom's...which is really hard to beat! I was so nervous to make my very first Thanksgiving dinner, and thanks to this recipe, I'll never be afraid again! It was phenomenal!

Favorite Corn Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2008
I personally LOVED this cornbread even though my husband prefers the "Buttery Cornbread" recipe from this site. I added 2 tbsp honey, used 1 tsp of salt and butter instead of shortening since that's what I had on hand. I used this to make Cornbread Dressing for Thanksgiving and it was fantastic! I will definitely keep making this!

Sweetened Whipped Cream

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2008
I couldn't be happier that we can't buy Cool Whip in Australia, because HOLY MOLY was this amazing! I will never ever ever go back to buying the fake stuff! This was excellent on top of the Coconut Cream Pie and Chocolate Cream Pie I made for Thanksgiving!

Allie's Delicious Baked Dumplings

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2008
I wish I could give these 10 stars! HOLY COW they were amazing! My husband was literally unable to speak because he was eating so fast! I didn't have any breadcrumbs so I just used flour instead and I also used about half of the amount of cinnamon called for. These are heavenly!! Serve them warm with ice cream and you have a fancy-schmancy, but super easy dessert! Thank you Allie for these awesome apple dumplings!!

Bacon Wrapped Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2008
WOW! I haven't made a chicken dish THIS good in a LONG time!! We absolutely LOVED the flavors of the chicken, cream cheese, bacon and sauce all cooked together. I followed the recommendation of naples and used half white wine/half milk and then extra spices/garlic with the cream cheese mixture. Served on top of angel hair pasta and I already can't wait to make this again! This would be an excellent dish to make for company!

Apricot Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2008
This was excellent! My husband and I really enjoyed it, and both agreed that I'll be making it over and over again! I had pork that I needed to use, and I ended up stir-frying it in a pan with the peppers and some olive oil. I heated up the "sauce" ingredients in a small pot and then poured it over the pork/peppers; simmered for about 15 mins and then served on rice. Delish and SO easy!

Pumpkin Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2008
So easy and delicious! I would recommend doubling the amount of pumpkin in this cake...it's not my favorite pumpkin cake, but it certainly was easy to make and tasted great! I didn't have pumpkin pie spice, so I used a combo of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves instead. I'll make this again when I have extra pumpkin on my hands!

Brie Cheese Appetizer

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2008
SOOO good. SOOO easy. The perfect appetizer! I made it with apricot preserves and added shaved almonds both in between the brie slices and on top of the pastry. Everyone at our get together LOVED this! The best part is - it looks as though you spent so much time making it, and it really only takes a few minutes to put everything together!! Thank you for this delicious and sophisticated appetizer!!

All American Apple Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2008
My first apple pie ever and it was AMAZING! Yum, yum, YUM! I took this to a Thanksgiving get together tonight and everyone loved it! I used a frozen pie crust on the bottom, but other than that, I followed the recipe exactly as written! (I sprinkled extra cinnamon on top too, just for fun!) I am going to be making this delicious apple pie for years!!!
