I am a teacher at a middle school and teach 7th and 8th grade science. I am the mother of a 5 year old little girl and a 2 year old little boy. My husband and I, along with his parents own and operate a 5400 acre cattle ranch. We are an angus cow/calf production, and grow and harvest 600 acres of orchard grass.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking dinner and appetizers. I especially love cooking meat.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family, my husband's family, and now our family have always gathered together at dinner time for a sit down dinner. The Momma's in the family have always cooked the evening meal and we all sit down together as a family to eat and review the day's activities.
My cooking triumphs
Soup - I hate making it and when I do manage to make a good pot of soup, I feel successful.
My cooking tragedies
I make a paprika rice dish that is wonderful. One time, I had bought a different brand of paprika and put it in the cupboard. I was in the process of making the rice and I grabbed the paprika, measured out what I needed, and put it back. I was annoyed at the new paprika because it was a lighter color and wasn't making a pretty colored mixture, so I added more. I then finished the rice and was fluffing it when I finally tasted it. Because I wasn't paying attention to the spice I was grabbing, I accidentally used cayenne pepper instead of paprika! It was very hot rice!
