Shrimp Scampi Bake

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2009
Delicious...I doubled the recipe for an office potluck...it is much easier than the scampi recipe I usually make. I was out of dijon, so subbed a bit of honey mustard. My co-workers, who have sweet tooths, loved it. I will use the dijon next time! thanks for a great dish.

Lemon Sugar Tea Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2009
I used the lemon juice/lemon zest combination because I didn't have extract, and I think it made them come out thinner then I expected. Next time I would try the recipe as written. Nevertheless, they had a good taste to them...my kids and spouse gobbled these up right out of the oven!

White Chocolate Macadamia Cranberry Dreams

Very good addition to my Christmas treat boxes! I omitted the macadamia nuts because I didn't have any on hand, and added the zest and juice of one orange. Delicious cookie!

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2008
I am not a great baker, but was looking for an easy sugar cookie recipe to make with my kids for the holidays - and this was it! Followed the recipe almost to the letter, except I took the advice of one other reviewer and used powdered sugar to roll out the dough instead of flour...they came out perfectly! We didn't find them bland at all, especially after decorating. I would definitely recommend baking on parchment paper, though, they stuck just a bit on the ungreased cookie sheet. Thanks so much for a great recipe!

Cha Cha's White Chicken Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2008
This was a delicious, quick winter meal with great flavor for such a short cooking time. Because I have small kids, I used just 1 tbs of the canned jalapeno and 1/4 tsp of the the cayenne, and it was still a bit too hot for them...but delicious to me! We garnished with chopped fresh tomato and sour cream, yum!

Authentic Louisiana Red Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2008
Very good recipe. To add even more "authentic" southern flavor, I threw in a ham hock, and then shredded the meat from it and added it to the cooked beans. Also, I always use dried "small red beans" rather than kidney beans, they cook faster and we enjoy the texture of them. My southern-born spouse really enjoyed this dish!

Spicy Grilled Shrimp

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2008
I made this for a large party which included other barbecued items, and thought these were very good...not too spicy, not too bland. They were perhaps a bit too salty for some of my guests, but it seemed to depend upon the person. I will use this recipe again, maybe try reducing the salt and adding a little Old Bay seasoning, as another reviewer mentioned.

Marie's Easy Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2008
This is the best slow-cooker pot roast I've ever made! I followed some of the other reviewers' suggestions: rubbed the meat with Montreal Steak Seasoning before searing, subbed beef broth for the water, and added worcestershire sauce and fresh garlic to the mix...it had a nice kick to it that we all enjoyed!

Stuffed Chicken Breasts with Cornbread Dressing

Reviewed: May 19, 2008
Hi, I'm Carina, the author of this recipe, and just wanted to say that I made it this weekend with a little cooked bulk Italian sausage in place of the chicken livers, and it was a nice change and still very tasty!

Baked French Fries I

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2008
very good fries! I wish I had read the review about lowering the baking temp to 400 degrees, because mine got a little burned, but otherwise these were delicious! Also, we did add salt...it was needed here.

Roasted Garlic Cauliflower

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2008
This was a delicious change from my usual steamed/sauteed cauliflower-with-garlic recipe. I really love the texture that roasting gives to this dish. I'll definitely be making this one again.

Caramel Popcorn

I followed the instructions exactly, and the caramel ended up having a somewhat burned taste. Aside from that, the flavor was good. Next time I won't bake it as long.

Sour Cream Lemon Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2007
I LOVED this recipe, especially with the less milk/more sour cream and lemon adjustments suggested by other reviewers. I made this one "Lemon Pie 1", also from this site for Thanksgiving dinner. The other pie is a quick condensed-milk based recipe. Interestingly, most of my diners preferred the other one, but to me, nothing can compare to the taste of a homemade custard, and this one was easy and delicious! I made it with a graham cracker crust and served it with whipped cream...fantastic!

Lemon Pie I

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2007
This was my first attempt at making any type of lemon pie. I made this recipe and the "Sour Cream Lemon Pie" also from this site as 2 of my desserts for Thanksgiving dinner. I wanted to compare the tastes between a quick, condensed milk-based recipe to one where you actually cook up a custard. My diners overwhelmingly preferred this one, which is great, since it's so easy! I actually preferred the other recipe, which is why I can only give 4 stars. But I'll definitely make this one again, since it is so incredibly quick and easy, and most people seemed to really love it.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2007
Sorry, I don't know if it was me or the recipe, but these didn't really turn out well for me. Given the enormous number of positive reviews, maybe I missed a step, I''m not sure. I was barely able to spread the batter out to cover the bottom of the 8x8 pan, and they baked up thin and dry after just 25 minutes. On the up side, though, the frosting was terrific, which is why I'm giving these 3 stars!

Red Cabbage and Apples

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2007
It's funny - when I tasted this out of the pan, I thought it was just so-so. Then when I served it and ate it alongside a sausage and potato dish, it really popped!! Must be something about the flavor combination. Good recipe!

Bobbie's Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2007
Really good! Baking isn't my strongest suit, but these came out terrific. We don't like chocolate chips in oatmeal cookies, so I omitted those, and added some coconut to the batter, but otherwise followed the recipe exactly. I made these last year for Christmas give-aways, but noticed that they are best eaten shortly after baking...this year we'll just eat them ourselves, and pick another recipe to use for gifts. I'm sure my family won't mind...they're delicious!

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2007
Delightful! After reading the reviews of other people, I substituted chopped scallions for the onion and added a little extra cheese...otherwise I followed the recipe exactly, and it came out great! I used my mandolin to slice the potatoes and it made this recipe super-easy. Thanks for a great dish!

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2007
This is simply a fabulous beef stew recipe. I made it last week, incorporating Corinne's revisions and changing the proportions because I had 3 lbs of beef stew meat to use. I also added a chopped shallot when browning the meat, and sliced mushrooms at the end...the whole family loved it!

Rosemary Roasted Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2007
This is the best new pork recipe we've tried in a long, long time. I was making it ahead for tomorrow night's supper, and my 6-year old and I couldn't stop ourselves from eating a big hunk of it right out of the oven. p.s., I doubled the sauce recipe, and it was just right for our tastes. Thanks, Carolyn!
