I love to cook on weekends when I can take my time preparing a special meal while enjoying a glass of red wine and some nice music with my husband. Rarely a weekend goes by without having my sisterand her family or friends over for dinner. I'm so lucky!
My favorite things to cook
I will try just about anything except for those recipes that call for a can of this soup and a jar of that stuff.... I prefer fresh ingredients and get satisfaction from making things from scratch.
Overall, I think italien food is my favorite meal to prepare because of the variety.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Being French Canadian, the first things I learned to cook was Tourtiere, feve au lard, and poudding chaumeur.... My mom was very big on homemake soups and ragouts as well.
My cooking triumphs
Over the years I have become quite a good baker, especially cookies and cake. Whenever I am invited for dinner, I am asked to bring the dessert.
My cooking tragedies
I was invited to an Easter morning potluck and was to bring a pot of my famous feve au lard (homemade beans) I prepared them as I usually do and put them in the oven to cook over night. When I opened the lid to check in the morning they looked perfectly golden brown. Then the taste test.... I had never tasted anything so disgustingly salty in all my life. I don't know how I managed it but I had cut up a sizeable peice of salt pork and added to the beans instead of pork. Nothing I did to fix it worked, won't make that mistake again.
