Almond Crescent Buns

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2009
It must have been too early for me to do this properly, but turned out great! Instead of placing the butter/brown sugar mixture into the muffin pan, I spread over the crescent rectangles and rolled up as directed. I realized my mistake at that point, but had to keep going, so cooked them that way. They did not cook over and were really tasty. I mixed the powdered sugar/butter mix and brushed over the cooked tops. Would have thought I'd done it right, they were so good. I used vanilla extract instead of almond, added cinnamon to the brown sugar mix and did not put nuts in, as the kids won't eat cooked nuts. Thanks for sharing this easy and delicious special breakfast.

Soft, Moist and Gooey Cinnamon Buns

We tried these during the Christmas holidays and they turned out good. Not quite as moist as I was hoping, but everyone liked them. Thanks for sharing this.

Baked French Toast

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2008
This is delicious! Used the suggestions of CZardus (sp) with 6 eggs and larger pan, his idea for the cream to milk ratio and turned over after several hours. In the morning, I sprinkled extra cinnamon over all the slices before baking. How easy - and still left time for visiting with our Christmas Eve. Thanks so much for sharing this.

We quite often put plain yogurt (not mayo)in our eggs, like this. Healthier and yummy too.

Slow Cooker Turkey Breast

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2008
I had a 7.5 oz breast and put a cut onion in the bottom of the crock pot, along with 8 oz chicken broth. Then added granulated garlic, thyme and sage to the onion soup mix before rubbing under and over the skin. Put the breast in with the meatiest part to the bottom of the crock pot, to keep it moist. Cooked on high one hour and then on low for another 6, turning over for the last two hours. It was very moist and flavorful - and no trouble at all. Best of all, the oven was free for all the other Thanksgiving dishes. Thanks for sharing this great idea!

Cheddar Bay Biscuits

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2008
This recipe gave me about 45 nice-sized biscuits. I added about 2 tsp granulated garlic, 1/2 tsp onion powder to the biscuit dough and added at least that much again to the butter, along with several shakes of Tabasco. Like others mentioned, I put these back in the oven after basting with the butter mixture. They took longer to cook than indicated but that may be because I had 2 cookie sheets in the oven and so many on each. Next time, realizing it will make more, I will cook them in batches. Thanks for sharing!

Banana Pudding I

Cut this down to "6" servings, but still used 2 yolks instead of one egg. Used crushed animal crackers and layered with 2 bananas before pouring on the custard. After cooling, topped it off with fresh whipped cream. Yummmmm

Skillet Pork Chops with Potatoes and Onion

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2008
This was delish! The pork, potatoes and onions all have a great flavor done this way. I sprinkled the pork with Prudhomme's chicken seasoning before browning and only used one bouillon cube, as I think mine (Knorr) are double strength. Did not use salt, as there is plenty in the bouillon. Used bone-in chops and cooked about and hour to make sure they were tender - and they were! Thanks for sharing.

Fabulous Homemade Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2008
Used stone ground whole grain flour for the whole wheat and did not cut up the oatmeal and used walnut oil for vegetable oil. Only did 1/3 of the recipe and cooked one loaf and have another in the freezer for later. This makes a pretty light loaf. Thanks for sharing.

Original Chex® Party Mix

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2008
This is in our house every holiday, by demand from the family. However, I double all the seasonings, but not the butter, and use whole grain Cheerios instead of the garlic bread things. I also add quite a bit of Tabasco and cayenne. Taste the seasonings mixed with the butter before you add the cereals and make sure it tastes spicy - it will be a lot milder once mixed and cooked. I also cook in the oven at 250 for an hour, stirring every 15 minutes, instead of cooking in the microwave. It is MUCH better after cooling on the newspaper covered with paper towels than fresh out of the oven.

Beef Stew IV

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2008
Used olive oil instead of shortening as other reviewers suggested; used beef broth/bouillon cubes instead of water; simply cut the onion into eighths; and, after browning the meat (which I sprinkled with garlic powder and fresh ground pepper before flouring) in the cast iron casserole dish, added the broth, onions, splash of red wine, about 1/4 cup catsup, about 1 cup of baby bella mushrooms that I chopped really fine in the processor (as hubby won't eat them if he can see them), and cooked in the oven at 225 for most of the afternoon. Then added shredded carrots and sliced potatoes, along with a can of cream of chicken and an envelope of brown gravy powder mix and put back into the oven at 300 for another hour or so. Added a drained and rinsed can of Lesueur early peas just before serving. Yummy!!

Famous Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2008
I added 1/4 cup flour as other reviewers suggested and used half the amount of butter. I did not cut the cooking time; however, and will next time. Also, I think next time I will melt the butter in the dish and coat both sides just before baking, instead of "placing around the chicken." It was edible and quick, but not yummy as I had expected from the ratings.

Old Fashioned Coconut Cream Pie

This is a great pie. I used 1 1/2 cups coconut milk and 1 1/2 cups half & half instead of 3 cups half & half. Also used 1/3 cup cornstarch instead of the 1/2 cup flour. Thanks, Carol, for sharing this.

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2008
This is very good. A little time consuming, but worth it. A few changes to our pie were: grated fresh in place of sliced carrots; no celery; Lesuer peas; a can of cream of chicken and cup of water in place of the broth; and, 2 diced cooked potatoes added just before simmering. A hearty meal.

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2008
We were without power due to Ike, so needed a crockpot recipe, as we could plug that into the generator. Used skinless thighs, as that was what was on hand. Pretty good flavor and easy. Served over whole grain penne. Did not have cream of chicken, so used a can of beef gravy mixed with a chicken gravy packet. Should have mixed the cream cheese more thoroughly, and next time will add a little milk to make more sauce.
