I married my high school sweetheart at 18, a mother of 2 grown daughters -- one married (almost 10 years) with 3 beautiful children (boy, girl, boy) and my babygirl recently married on one of the most popular days of 2007, July 7th. I learned to cook mainly by watching my Mother and my Grandmothers -- which their recipes are not written down, nicknamed Taste and See Method of Cooking with a pinch of this and a handfull of that. I'm still a young cook -- learning all the time.
My favorite things to cook
Most of us would have to admit our favorite things to cook are going to be the things we get the best reviews on from family and friends -- I like it all. I'm still learning and enjoy learning -- my latest is baking with sour dough starter and I would love to master baking artisan breads.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Mother's/Grandmother's Cornbread Dressing at Thanksgiving. My husband's Mother's recipe for Cranberry Salad -- this opened my eyes and gave me a passion for finding new cranberry recipes every year -- one of the first questions from my daughter's is "what kind of cranberry sauce are we having this year? with the youngest usually telling her friend(s) my mom has put jalapenos in cranberry sauce she goes crazy with these recipes. LOL
My cooking triumphs
I get rave reviews on my Cornbread Dressing. It is a plain recipe but every time I take this dish somewhere I never come home with leftovers and folks are constantly asking me for the recipe -- of course this is a Taste and See Method Recipe. I've tried to put this recipe to paper as both my daughters are trying to learn the traditions.
My cooking tragedies
There have been many tragedies in my cooking lifetime and mainly they were form inexperience. I would think, the recipe doesn't call for that much and it would be wasteful not to use all of this ingredient -- in some instances I recall it would have been less wasteful to use what the recipe called for -- instead of using it all and end up throwing out the entire dish. LOL
