About this Cook
I'm a Senior at GMU in Fairfax, VA, majoring in Administration of Justice. I'm a Navy Brat so I wouldn't really say I'm "from" anywhere. Springfield, VA was just the longest I've ever stayed in one place.
My favorite things to cook
Stir-fry, desserts, beef, japanese/asian foods, mom's cooking, italian
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother is by far in my opinion, the best cooking improviser. I learned a lot of real neat tips and tricks from her. Unfortunate for me, she doesn't measure anything. So I've had to watch her real close over the years to try and replicate her recipes. My brothers and I were the very definition of picky eaters, in fact we still are. Most of her recipes were centered around feeding kids who hate everything :)
My cooking triumphs
I was usure about a German Potato Salad recipe that was my great-grandmother's. But I made it anyways for a 4th of July block party a few years back... It was a big hit! Several people asked me for the recipe!
My cooking tragedies
I once burned water :'( I was chewing mint flavored gum while baking cookies one time, I mistook the baking powder for flour (because they taste the same with mint gum in your mouth). Well I didn't even have gross, solid cookies, I had a runny mess!

Danish Kringle
This was so tasty! I made my own peach preserve for the filling. The only thing was it only made 2 kringles. The first one didn't come out so pretty or professional looking and had peach filling oozing out every which way... but it was soooo good! So for the next one I fixed the design flaws and crisscross it better.

Tanya's Snickerdoodles
Very tasty. I never have almond extract or cream of tartar on hand, so I didn't put those in, and I converted the recipe to 12 servings and rounded off the measurements, because it gets something along the lines of 1/3 cup 2 tbsp 1 tsp of X ingredient. 50 cookies is way too much for 2 people.
