Apple Cake I

Excellent recipe, not too much work. Mine took a lot more baking though, after 30 minutes it was well browned on top but not cooked in the middle so I had to turn the temperature down and cook it for another 25 minutes. I have an electric fan oven, but it is getting old now. Tasted delicious, especially warm with walnut ice cream!

Amalgamation Cake I

Really good fruity cake. More work than I usually like to put in (I'm seriously into one-pot cookery!). Icing too sweet for me but made it look really impressive. Well liked by everyone who tasted it.

Quick Cake

This was great! Much better than I expected. I made cupcakes, just used self-raising flour as I didn't really know what pastry flour was. And I doubled the cocoa powder (cos I like things really chocolatey!) Warm out of the oven they were good, but a day or two later they were fantastic, they took on a soft, almost gooey consistency like brownies. Everyone liked them, no-one guessed at the unusual ingredients.

Marinated Baked Pork Chops

Tried this recipe before realising we didn't have any ketchup... used tomato salsa instead. Didn't smell great when cooking, but tasted really good. Cooked 4 pork chops in this sauce in the slow cooker for 3 hours. Was really pleased with the result.

Big Soft Ginger Cookies

Amazing recipe - I doubled it to get more cookies! In future I would add more ginger - my guests said they could taste the cinnamon but not the ginger.

Aunt Joyce's Chocolate Cake

Well, I had to make this cake when I saw the ingredients, it was just so unusual! It looked fantastic, tasted chocolatey (I used the cocoa powder and oil) but the texture was slightly rubbery. However it didn't detract much from the cake, nearly all my family loved it!

Old-Fashioned Chocolate Fudge

Wow. I followed this recipe exactly and it turned out perfect - even on an electric hob without a candy thermometer. Thanks to those other reviewers who gave tips about fudge-making. - couldn't have done it without you! Perfect consistency fudge, creamy delicious flavour and texture. The only reason I've not given this recipe 5 stars is because there is more detail required in the recipe, mainly with regard to the sugar crystals, timings and temperatures. Many thanks though - this should give my fiance enough energy as quick snacks throughout his triathlon this weekend!

Chocolate Frosting III

Well I made it just now to decorate two chocolate cakes. I had to add more milk than the 2tsb one reviewer suggested - just poured some in though so I don't know how much! It was a bit lumpy so I guess I should have sieved the icing sugar (?confectioners sugar in USA?). Otherwise, tasted delicious!

Easy Cheese and Garlic Scones

Having read other reviews, I added slightly more butter. They turned out amazingly well! Light and fluffy throughout. My fiance told me to make double quantities next time I made them! I'm making a third batch today and have followed the recipe exactly. I'll let you know how they come out...

Tangy Chicken Breasts

Very interesting taste, slightly acidic. Halved the recipe, baked in oven with marinade. My brother and fiance both enjoyed it very much - we added a slice of cheese to each fillet midway through baking. Served with brown rice and vegetables.

Savory Pork Chops

We both really enjoyed this recipe. IT was altered at the last minute, when I realised we'd run out of marmalade - I used mango chutney instead. It was delicious. I also baked the pork chops in the sauce, after frying them in the flour mixture. The meat was so tender when cooked this way. I will definitely be cooking this again!

Fruit Cobbler

I made this to top apples - it was delicious! I only realised half-way through making it that there were no eggs, but it didn't make any difference. It was even better cold, later! ----- Have made it many times, since with a variety of different fruits. Consistently awesome! Family loves it!

Roast Chicken with Cracked Peppercorn Sauce

This was delicious! As always, I adjusted the recipe according to what was in the cupboards, i.e. white wine instead of vermouth, small onion inteaad of shallots, double cream not whipping cream. but it made an average roast dinner that much more special. I also roasted the vegetables in the same dish as the chicken; the carrots tasted wonderful! I would probably increase the amounts of the sauce if I was making it again, it was so delicious 2 of us had no problem finishing it all off! (recipe for 4 people!) Thank you Denise.

Chicken with Couscous

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed this. I altered the recipe slightly (can't help fiddling!) and didn't measure, exactly, the spices... It was a tad spicy in places, but very enjoyable all the same. I will be making this again. I'm glad of the recipe, as I wouldn't have thought to use those spices together on my own.
