About this Cook
I waited tables in a tasty restaurant for ten years, so I never learned to cook. In fact, my husband likes to tell people that when he met me in 1998, all my pans were black because I cooked everything on high heat! I started cooking after I left my restaurant job about two years ago.
My favorite things to cook
My family has a traditional Italian spaghetti and meatballs dish. It's one of those recipes that has never really been written down. I love to make my meatballs and have totally perfected the recipe. It's all about the Italian sausage...
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up, I remember so many mysterious and yummy treats in my grandma's kitchen. Dumplings and sauerkraut, candied strawberries, cherry mash, kolache, potato soup, white chocolate haystacks. I have tried to make some of these treats and it's never the same.
My cooking triumphs
It is always a triumph to add a fabulous new recipe to my collection.
My cooking tragedies
I need to think about this one.

Creamy Split Pea Soup
OMG, this was really, really good. I omitted the bacon, so I used olive oil instead of the bacon grease. I also omitted the cream - after putting 2/3 of this soup in the food processor it was plenty creamy. I also added two chopped carrots along with the onion and celery. Instead of the diced ham, I cooked a few ham shanks in the soup, and used the meat from those. Totally making this again.

White Chocolate, Chocolate Cookies
Yummy! These taste very similar to Otis Spunkmeyer's. I only had 6oz. of white chocolate baking squares, so I cut the recipe in half and used the squares, roughly chopped. Added some salt and vanilla as other reviewers mentioned. Also, used half baking powder and half baking soda, but I had to press these with my spatula because they weren't spreading as much as I'd like... I think flatter cookies look more delicious.

Monster Cookies VI
These were sooooo yummy. Omitted the corn syrup and used half quick oats and half rolled oats as suggested by reviewers. These didn't seem to spread that well, so I pressed the dough ball a bit before baking and pressed the cookie a bit after baking. I also let them sit on the cookie sheet for a minute or two before moving to cooling rack as they were very soft. My husband thought he didn't like monster cookies, but he ate so many. Our new favorite!
