Seven Layer Dip I
About this Cook
Cooking is a hobbie for me. I enjoy it and it actually helps me relax. When I cook for someone, I aim to please. I love having guests over and entertaining them with some sort of delicious dish. My favorite thing is when someone tells me how good my food is...it makes me feel GREAT!
My favorite things to cook
Any type of pasta from scratch is fun. I love to cook mannicotti, beef stroganoff is one of my specialties, stir fry, all kinds of dips and sauces, cookies, brownies, cupcakes, just about anything. I know its not technically "cooking" but I love to make HUGE salads with tons of toppings. Making salad dressing from scratch is so yummy and theres nothing like it. I love to barbeque chicken and beef. I love finding new ways to cook veggies. Anything that involves a cool presentation I like to cook. The list goes on...
My favorite family cooking traditions
Any kind of candy or brittle. Fudge, cookies, and even play-doh. Chicken and rice, its my grandmas specialty. All vegetable dinners, fresh from our garden. Ambrosia, succotash, boiled peanuts, chicken and dumplins, cherry ham, grean bean casserole, huge salads, banana cream pies, fried green tomatoes, cornbread and black eyed peas.
My cooking triumphs
One triumph for me was finding and making the perfect alfredo sauce. It was very hard to do because, I dont like it too buttery but if you put too much cream cheese it is too rich. You need just the right amounts. Another triumph would have to be Hummus from scratch. I wanted a certain consistancy and amount of garlic, and I figured it out. Most of my cooking is expiremental anyways, so almost every meal is a new one.
My cooking tragedies
One time I tried to make Almond Toffee, and I tried to use shortening instead of butter, it was crazy. It turned into a huge ball of burnt sugar and it smelt like crap. I dont know if you would call this a cooking tragedy but one night I had made these awesome burritos and I went to roll mine up and rolled it straight off the counter and onto my lap. I had to make another batch of taco meat because it was all that was left. It sucked. Not too many tragedies...yet.

Chicken Souvlaki Gyro Style
This was very authentic tasting. Just enough lemon and herbs to really make it juicy. I think I added a little honey just for contrast. MMmmmmm.

Barbecued Beef
This was fantastic!!! I made it for a bunch of guys on Sunday for football and they nearly inhaled it. One guy said he had a "foodgazm" it was that good. I definately reccomnend serving it on a hoagie with a large slice of cheddar cheese.

Hummus III
This was very good. I highly suggest peeling the peas and reserving the juice for later to thin it out a little. Also I almost trippled the garlic, but thats because I like to taste it. I actually had some hummus at a wedding, but it was traditional style and made by a Serbian chef...it was better than this, but you cant compare the two.
