About this Cook
I am a dietitian who loves to cook! I love cooking for my husband and our families and cater as a side job. I love trying new recipes and creating my own. Natually, I always look for the healthiest way to make meals but also realize that there's no healthy way to make the all-indulgent triple chocolate almond torte (a family favorite). I love everything about food- planning menus, grocery shopping, cooking, baking, canning, entertaining....I make everything from scratch which makes the dish so much tastier!
My favorite things to cook
Baking muffins, breads, and elegant desserts. I also love making healthy soups, salads, and stir-frys.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I started helping my mom in the kitchen at 3 yrs old. My ears perked at the sound of the mixer and I was right there to crack eggs, measure the salt, whatever she needed. My mom is a fabulous cook and went from cooking at home to managing restaurants (now on her 3rd). With hard work and common sense, she can take a failing restaurant and turn it around to a success. She's let me help every step of the way. I love cooking with my mom, whatever it is.
My cooking triumphs
Starting my own catering business at the age of 16 and catering countless events including weddings, birthday parties, retirement parties, graduations, you name it.
My cooking tragedies
I made dinner for my boyfriend (now husband)one night. I had been in the kitchen for about 1 1/2 hrs when I took a glass pan of acorn squash out of the oven. We smelled something burning but couldn't figure out what it was. Just as I was going to plate up the meal, CRACK! I had accidentally set the glass pan on a hot burner. The glass pan shattered all over the kitchen and in all of the food. We ended up having gourmet PB&J's for dinner.

Shrimp over Cheese Grits
Very simple and delicious recipe. I used quick cooking grits which reduced cooking time by 15-20 minutes. I had Kraft singles on hand so I stirred those in to the grits and they melted nicely. Will definately make again. Thanks for the recipe
