About this Cook
I started cooking in the 1970's when the McCall's Cooking magazines were popular and the gourmet revolution was beginning.
My favorite things to cook
I'm a yeast baker; I like things cooked slowly and are full of flavor; I'm currently trying new vegetable combinations for dinners.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We were raised on meat and potatoes. I have a large family and am one of the last cooks that makes things from scratch. I'm always consulted for holiday recipes that use yeast.
My cooking triumphs
I can cook almost anything successfully. I've been cooking for 40 years!
My cooking tragedies
Not knowing what my guests will eat (such as dinner parties) and preparing dishes people can't/won't eat.

Bacon Ranch Pasta Salad
I thought this salad would do well for a meat-eaters pot luck. It didn't do very well; it wasn't fresh tasting enough and was bogged down with too many ingredients. Maybe it's the Californians in us but the eaters went for simpler, fresher salads with less calories. This salad says: "big eater, I'm here!"

Seafood Risotto
We thought it needed a little more zip and minced 1/4 green pepper with the onion.

Smushed Apples and Sweet Potatoes
pan dry potatoes after boiling. Use 1/8 cup maple syrup instead of refined sugar. Good kid food.
