Crispy Gingersnaps

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2009
The absolute best gingersnap recipe I have ever used! :) The cookies were flat and chewy and moist and perfect for a dunk in either milk or hot tea. Thanks so much for sharing this recipe with us!

Dump Cake I

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2009
Made this for a quick dessert after I realized that the dessert I made the other day had vanished and company was coming in 1 hour. Very easy to make. Tasted like I had spent way more than 5 minutes prepping it to cook. I did thinly shave the butter to cover the cake rather than melting it. A word of caution, this is a very rich dessert. Serve small portions. Did not need any ice cream/whipped cream as it was so rich/sweet already. I will probably make this again for a dessert in a pinch but it really was too rich for my tastes.

Easy Batter Fruit Cobbler

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2009
This was really good! However I added an extra cup of fresh blueberries and 1/2 tsp vanilla extract to the batter. Next time I will reduce the sugar in the batter because while delicious, it was a bit too sweet for our families tastes. It was very easy to make, I basically supervised while my 8 and 9 year old made it. I made it in an 8x8 glass baking dish. I cooked it for the entire 60 minutes. It came out of the oven looking like it wasn't cooked but after it cooled I could tell it was definitely cooked.

Tater Tot Hot Dish II

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2009
as is this was not very good. I mixed the soups and the hamburger with a package of frozen veggies. I used additional spices to enhance the flavor (original mrs. dash) After stirring the stuff together I then layered the tatertots on TOP of the hotdish. this way they got crispy as the hotdish cooked in the oven. I ommitted the onions on the top because the tatertots where on top and they crisped up nicely... I grew up putting ketchup on this hotdish and continue to do so as an adult... When the tatertots are mixed into the soup mixture they get mushy... put them on top and the dish is much more enjoyable!

Marshmallow Treats

Follow the first two tips and these will be great! I put mine in the next size bigger pan after 13x9... I think it is 15x11. then bars were still nice and thick.

Gingerbread Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2008
I wanted to add something on to my previous review. Let these cookies sit overnight in an air tight container with a slice of bread to help keep moist. Their taste improves overnight and I find they are even tastier after a few days. I just change out the slice of bread every two days to help keep them moist. They are not supposed to be a sweet cookie... that is why the glaze/frosting is used... oops my previous review didn't post... I used 1 1/2 cups robust mollasses. I also doubled all spices. I rolled them a wee bit thick and they were perfect. watch the oven times as they go from done to burned in about 30 seconds.

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2007
I can't believe how good these cookies were! Next time I will make a double batch. Upon making them I realized that my vanilla had spilled in the cabinet and subbed almond extract instead! They gave the cookie a more mature flavor but my kids still gobbled them up! I'm not sure why some people had issues with the baking time... i did exactly ten minutes and they were done to perfection.

Pumpkin Pancakes

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2007
These were so good! I wish i could give it 6 stars! I made these for dinner accompanied by fresh apple sausage. We used real maple syrup that was served warm with some butter melted into it. I did use nutmeg instead of allspice because I was out. After dinner my oldest daughter asked for these for her birthday!

Baked Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2007
This bread was super super super super super good according to my 6 year old. She really loved it! She even brought some to school to share at snack time, and the other kids loved it too! -even with the added raisins- I made a few minor changes: doubled the cinnamon and nutmeg and added 1 tsp ginger and 1/2 tsp ground cloves (per loaf) and added probably half a cup of additional buttermilk because the batter seemed heavy. The bread was moist and delicious!

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: May 26, 2007
I'm giving this recipe a 4 because my 6 and 7 year old absolutely loved these with their tea. I will continue to try other scone recipes in the hopes of finding something a bit more to my liking. I would have given this a 3 star rating except that the kids really seemed to like them. In my opinion these were extremely bland and tasteless compared to a multitude of scones eaten over a lifetime.

Creamy Lemon Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2007
This was a fantastic cake recipe! It was wonderfully refreshing after a rich spaghetti dinner. Our friends who came for dinner each requested the recipe. The only thing I would do differently is to add some lemon zest to the batter and definitely the frosting as i like a little extra zing!

Garlic Bubble Ring

This was an awesome recipe. I followed the directions completely and used the left over butter for a spread. Oh, I did add a couple tbsp's of rosemary, but it would have been awesome without it.

Rhubarb Crunch

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2007
I used 5 cups of rubarb and almost one pound of strawberries. I kept all the other ingredients the same. I though it would be enough for at least two dinners worth of desserts, but it disappeared as a bedtime snack for kids and hubbie. Excellent cruchie topping!

Baking Powder Biscuits I

These are great Biscuits- especially when slathered with jelly or honey. I made a double batch so we could have biscuits for breakfast and my kids ate all the extras as a bedtime snack. Great easy recipe. Oh, i did roll them out to ensure they would be a bit more stable for little hands to hold.

Pilgrim Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2006
I served this pie for our Thanksgiving Desert and it disappeared pretty quickly. I loved the smooth velvety texture. I did think that the whipped cream was too sweet and will only use 1/8 cup next time. My cousin who "doesn't like pumpkin pie" had seconds! :) I will definitely make this again.

Overnight Caramel Pecan Rolls

These Rolls were the best! I did double the caramel and was glad i did or else there wouldn't have been enough caramel for my family. I also cut the rolls a bit smaller to get more... friends and family loved em. They were perfect for our early morning staurday garage sales :)

Crazy Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2006
I was so excited to find this recipe. this is the same one we used as kids! This was the only chocolate cake my mom ever made but she lost the recipe years ago. i made it for my family and it disappeared pretty quickly. It is best with a thick buttercream frosting and a tall glass of ice cold milk. thanks
