About this Cook
I've been cooking for over 20 years, ever since my mother overslept one morning and I got too hungry to wait. That was when I was about 6. Made a grilled cheese sandwich and went to watch the Saturday morning cartoons. I was always an advanced child, LOL.
My favorite things to cook
Still love grilled cheese, but now I pair it with a nice chunky tomato soup. My recent favorite is grilled tuna. I've gotten it just right now and I try to make it at least once a week. I also love to make bread by hand. I admit to being a snob when it comes to this. I do not like bread machines, it's hands on all the way with me!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Coming from both a Latin and Black background, I have many influences to draw on. The tradition recipes in my family come from my grandmothers; Roast pork w/ rice and peas, and fried chicken w/ collard greens and black-eyed peas. Yum!
My cooking triumphs
My best moment and one I'll always remember is hosting Thanksgiving at my house for my family. I was only 23, and it felt like the torch was being passed to me to continue the family gatherings. It's a memory that continues to fill me with pride.
My cooking tragedies
Every cook has these and I'm no exception. You just have to accept them and use your mistakes to help you the next time you make that dish. You can't let it keep you from doing something you love. I remember the first time I tried to make bread. It was horrible! I didn't attempt it again for years. But when I found a recipe I wanted to do, I tried and it was perfect. Now making bread by hand is my absolute favorite thing to do.

Simple Turkey Chili
Pretty good--I only changed a few things-I used pureed tomatoes since they were on sale, and from experience I can say that it made the chili nice and thick. I also added a roasted bell peppers and that gave it a really good flavor.

Ooey-Gooey Cinnamon Buns
I changed it a bit, but it's an awesome recipe. Original recipe used only nuts, but since I only had dried fruit I used that. So my version has dried peaches, apricots, apples, pears and raisins. Instead of melting the butter to spread on the dough, I softened and mixed it with Parkay and spread it on like that so that the rolls would be soft. I've put up a picture of my finished version.

Orange Pork
4 stars for the concept and I made some minor changes. For the pork, I cut the chops into strips as others did, and for the sauce, instead of using water I used ginger ale and used brown sugar instead of white. Reduced the amount of sugar to counter the sugar in the ginger ale, and tripled the amounts for 3x the sauce.
