About this Cook
I have a 3 year old daughter who takes up most of my time away from work, but luckily she likes to watch me cook- and loves to imitate the whirring sound of my kitchen Aid mixer! She's starting to get into helping out with mixing and such- I can't wait to teach her all about cooking, baking and cake decorating!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake and Decorate cakes- I've taken a beginner's class and an intermediate class. I love to cook anything else that sounds like it tastes good! Oh and anything involving potatoes is a favorite of mine! I also love to make candy and filled chocolates- I can thank my mother-in-law for introducing that new habit! My current Favorites are Grandma Johnson's Scones,Baked Potato Soup, Jerky Lover's Jerky, and Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies...MMM MMM!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother is Filipino so I love her Adobo Chicken, Lumpia(like a meat-filled eggroll), and sinigung(Who knows how to spell it, but it tastes sooo good!)which is like a soup that you eat with rice. Whenever my family hears that I'm coming to visit, they know I'm coming to cook or bring treats! Every Christmas my family looks forward to my cookie and candy trays :)
My cooking triumphs
Baking cookies and cakes, lemon-rosemary chicken, steak skewers, bruschetta, foccacia, home fries, sliced fried potatoes, Variations of Grandma Johnson's Scones, Chicken Soup, There's too many to list in one sitting! I just hope this list continues to grow!
My cooking tragedies
Doughnuts-Oh they were horrible and what a mess! I know I've made other things that weren't so delicious, but I can't think of anything...I think I've blocked them out...

Blueberry Buckle
This was Awesome! I only added 1tsp of cinnamon, but other than that recipe remained the same. I did(completely by accident!!) use an entire stick of butter instead of a 1/2 stick for the topping but it was still delicious! I won't do it that way again, but it was worth it, as I usually put extra butter on it when I eat baked goods. I coated the blueberries with cornstarch so they wouldn't sink to the bottom. All in all- AWESOME!

Salisbury Steak
I loved this! I had a serious craving for this childhood favorite and was quite pleased. I did have to change it according to what i had on hand. In place of the cond. soup I used Dry Onion Soup mix with 1 cup of water. And since I did't have the cond. soup I couldn't make the sauce. I ended up using a packet of brown gravy mix(prepared as directed om the mix)It was SO good and I KNOW I'll be making this again!

Mini Pumpkin Muffins with Orange Drizzle
I really enjoyed these. I added approx. 1/8 tsp of all spice to the flour mixture to give it a little more spice. I have a convection oven so I had to bake them at 400 F. I made 2 different glazes: one with confectioners sugar and grand marnier and one with confectioners sugar and orange juice. I preferred the orange juice glaze- the one with grand marnier was a little too strong for the pumpkin flavor. Just a tip: Always sift the confectioners sugar before making a glaze- it will always come out smooth. But if there's lumps in the sifter afterwards, don't force them to go through, just throw them out. It can give you specks through out the glaze. I still feel like the batter could use a few more spices, so next time I will add some pupkin pie spice to the mixture. I will definately be making these again!
