About this Cook
So I was born & raised in Texas, then moved away to Tennessee for a while. I met my wonderful husband who decided to join the Army, and moved us to Texas. So here I am, living the life of the Super Army Wife. I love cooking & have had lots of practice with soldiers who tell you exactly what they think & what they like or don't like about your cooking !
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to cook are really varied, such as fried chicken, bbq brisket, fried pork chops, seafood alfredo, enchilada casserole, and so much more. I also like to have lots of fun with desserts & new mixed drink recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite is our holiday potlucks. Everyone brings one of the sides and usually me & my cousins use this as a time to try new recipes and of course we all share the secrets.
My cooking triumphs
The one that sticks out in my mind the most is when I made an enchilada casserole, refried beans, and spanish rice for about 10 people in about 3 1/2 hours. I was feeding the family of a soldier who had been killed in action and it was my way of helping & showing my support.
My cooking tragedies
This one is hilarious. I think I was 20 and my mom was going to be out of town for Thanksgiving and i wanted to make a ham. Well I got a little over zealous with the pineapple rings & cherries held in place with toothpicks. I set the toothpicks on fire and the ham ended up with little burn marks. The other would have to be the first Thanksgiving after getting married. The women in my husband's family are all wonderful cooks & all I had to do was make mashed potatoes. Well I made them ahead & when we got to his Mom's I put them on the stove to re-heat. Well I forgot to stir them or anything else and steam built up in the pot & pushed the potatoes up like a giant potato push-up ice cream !! I still hear this story at any of his family's gatherings.
