Breakfast for Dinner

I’ve made a big deal in the past about not eating cereal for dinner—which I don’t—but, by saying that, I don’t mean that you shouldn’t have cereal for dinner if that’s what sounds good to you. (I mean, you probably shouldn’t every night, but…I suppose this is the part where I say, Consult your physician before switching up your diet—or whatever. Has the disclaimer been clearly communicated? Okay, good.) I just mean that I don’t believe you should have to resort to cereal if you’d really rather have a great home-cooked meal.
Now that I think about it, the main reason I don’t eat cereal for dinner isn’t because of any strong “cereal for dinner” beliefs I hold dear, but more because I just plain old can’t have cereal in the house to begin with. Or cookies or licorice. Or any gummy candy, for that matter. Because regardless of the quantity, those items will not live to see another day. Possibly not even the next two hours—I have a very stubborn sweet tooth that doesn't respond to reason. It’s better if snacks like those aren’t anywhere to be found.
So, while cereal isn’t ever on my dinner menu, I have no problem admitting that I love having breakfast for dinner. And not just on those nights where I don’t have anything else to eat. That’s right, sometimes I choose breakfast for dinner over all other well-prepared, single servings-tastic options I may have on deck and no more than 15 minutes away from being ready to eat.
Yes, the ease of breakfast for dinner is certainly appealing, but mostly I think I go for it because I’ll take any opportunity to make myself a latte—a luxury I’ve enjoyed since making use of my employee discount back in my barista days to buy a home espresso machine. I’ve had it for almost ten years and the day that thing conks out on me will be the first time I’ll shed tears over the death of an appliance. (And the first time I’ll consider an appliance conking out as a “death.”)
My breakfast for dinner cravings might also be because I don’t really have time to sit and eat breakfast in the morning (more accurately, I don’t make time), so every once in awhile I probably feel an unconscious need to fill that void. Whatever the reason, I just find that some nights, nothing sounds better than two eggs over medium, toast, and big ol’ latte (decaf, of course) in a pretty mug. Not a remotely fancy meal, but so, so perfect.
I can’t be the only one who does this…right?
