Young and recently married, I always admired my mother's prowess in the kitchen, but never really tried it til I moved out. Now, I try all the new recipes I can and am told that I definitely picked up Mom's cooking talents, much to my husband's delight!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake anything. Nothing beats hot, fresh cookies. I was also raised in the south, so anything fried and full of butter is definitely comfort food. I still do my best to keep it healthy, though. Can't have birthday dinners every night :)
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family celebrates holidays over the dining room table. I love sitting at my grandmother's breakfast bar watching all the women prepare Thanksgiving dinner while all the men watch the game. Call me old-fashioned. Maybe this year they'll let me help out...
My cooking triumphs
I have 3 blue ribbons and 1 red ribbon from an annual bake sale at my husband's workplace. I'm told my peanut-butter-oatmeal-chocolate-chip cookies are in very high demand.
My cooking tragedies
I tried to make Snickerdoodles for my fiancee's birthday about 2 years ago, and even though I followed the recipe EXACTLY, they came out tasting like salt covered in salt. I still don't know why.
