The Midwestern Cook
About this Cook
I am a kindergarten teacher. Cooking has become one of my favorite hobbies. Not just cooking, but researching recipes, shopping for new kitchen tools, and watching cooking shows. I have a husband who eats to live and I live to eat, so he will eat whatever I cook for him. My mother is the best baker that I know. She makes the best goodies. My mother-in-law is the best cook that I know. She makes the best savory dishes. I have lots of experts to ask in a pinch.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake. I enjoy making pies, crisps, cobblers, and cakes. I also love to make salads and casseroles.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We make Lefse, a Norwegian treat, every holiday season. I have helped my mother make Lefse, but have not attempted it by myself. I think this is the year.
My cooking triumphs
I am happy to say that I have had two successful Thanksgiving meals in a row. When I talk to other friends my age, they tell me that they have not had to make the Thanksgiving meal yet.
My cooking tragedies
I was cooking my second Thanksgiving meal. I wanted to serve some yummy popovers, but the butter cooked over the pan and made a stinky, smoke-filled mess. The fire alarm went off and it took hours for the house to clear out. So, no bread at Thanksgiving.

Great Garlic Knots
Such a quick and easy bread to make with dinner. All of the knots are eaten!

Creamy Lemon Cake
I love this recipe. It is simple and it is a refreshing change from rich desserts. I like to serve mine with a raspberry sauce drizzle or just fresh raspberries.

Cherry Nut Bread
I thought this tasted good, but it just seemed like a lot of work for just an okay bread.
