About this Cook
I've got a wonderful husband and we're still pretty much newlyweds (since 2006!). He's been great about eating everything I've made, despite the wide range in success :) Mom gave me a solid background in cooking basics and baking. Moved to Wisconsin and have started learning how to cook for myself. It's great being able to trade recipes with her now!
My favorite things to cook
Baking quick-breads, cookies, trying new recipes. Breakfast foods will always score high with me. I love one-dish meals that have all the veggies, meats, or carbs all in one prep. I really need to work on finding solid recipes for supper. :)
My favorite family cooking traditions
After church every Sunday my mom would fix a wonderful lunch for our family and invite the grandparents over. It was great, that was when we got the best food and you could just about guarantee she'd have pie made that morning (she's an early bird!). I don't know if I can compete with that, but I'd certainly like to continue that tradition.
My cooking triumphs
My Cooking Club! After moving here, a few of us ladies have started cooking together once a week. We get together at someone's home every Monday night and bring a new recipe and the ingredients for it. We'll help each other make our dishes and then have them for supper that evening with our husbands. It's great! I get to try 4 new recipes without a bunch of leftovers. And I've learned so much from them!
My cooking tragedies
Oh geez, I would say the vegetarian lasagna I tried last month, it was awful. My dear sweet Husband could only eat one piece and refused to try any more. It was bad. ...And then there was the time I made a custard pie and misread the amount of sugar to put in. I put in the amount that was supposed to be for the milk. So it was ~7x sweeter than it should have been. Mom helped me to dilute it down and only make 6 pies instead. :)

Anna's Amazing Easy Pleasy Meatballs over Buttered Noodles
Like it's name, easy and pleasing! Better with fresh herbs over top, like parsley. I could see a good garlic bread getting dipped in here. Served it with salad and it was a hit! Thanks!

Chicken Lo Mein
Yum, we've made it twice now, once following the recipe time and have had great results! We even screwed it up by using "rice sticks" noodles instead of linguine which were difficult to get sauteed/fried. Dumping everything together in an attempt to soften them with a LOT of stirring worked well. Supper was a success! Next time we'll try adding carrots and snow peas. Yum! Thanks Meesh!

Pumpkin French Toast
Delicious! We doubled the pumpkin puree and still found the pumpkin taste to be pretty subtle. I would not increase the pumpkin past 1/2 cup or the egg mixture may lose its consistency. I added a splash of vanilla extract (personal taste). Using Texas Toast, this recipe made 6 slices = 3 servings. Either add 2 t. sugar or serve with powdered sugar or syrup. This was fantastic, we'll make it again.
