About this Cook
I'm just a normal girl who likes to cook for herself, her boyfriend, and anybody else who can be suckered into eating my food! I found out a few years ago that I felt a lot better when I ate real food, exercised, drank enough water, and all that good stuff. I avoid preprocessed food and try to minimize the artificial ingredients in what I cook when I can. I still eat rich, delicious food, and I love trying new things.
My favorite things to cook
Banana bread! Banana muffins! Banana cake! I also love making spaghetti sauce for a crowd, Indian (my curries alternate good/bad/good/bad, but I'm improving), and chicken fried rice. I also love pancakes and french toast. I have a terrible sweet tooth. I enjoy making cookies for everybody over the holidays. Meat loaf, shepherd's pie and chicken pot pie, which I can't make often because my bf doesn't eat them. And ice cream.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Stuffing. Whatever holiday it has, you have to have stuffing on the table. We have fried matzo every Christmas morning because I come from a mixed family. I bake cookies for the holidays with the people I love helping me. Nanaimo bars every New Year's.
My cooking triumphs
This year, my mom let me run Christmas dinner. I put together the menu and did most of the cooking myself, using various family members as my sous-chefs. We had a roast garlic turkey, traditional bread stuffing, creamed onions, roasted veggies, mashed potatoes, and rolls. For dessert I let my mom help, so we had chocolate mousse, apple crisp, and peppermint ice cream. All around it was a huge success. Also, I baked the cakes for a friend's casual wedding in October, and the guests preferred my from-scratch pumpkin cake to the doctored-mix chocolate cake. Victory!
My cooking tragedies
Every other curry I make is tragic. And I made a really pathetic dill and dijon beef stroganoff recently.

Spicy Banana Curry
A pretty decent starting point. I had to halve the recipe because it makes a whole lot (it still made a lot, even halved) and used canned tomatoes instead of diced fresh. The end result was hot but not as flavorful as I'd like. I tried to tweak the spices to suit my taste a little more, but something seems missing... the idea of a banana curry recipe is good, but I'm not quite sure this is the one.

Chocolate Chip Bars
Please follow Pam's advice here! Add 1/4 c peanut butter to the batter (when you're creaming the butter and sugar), then bake about 11 minutes on 50% power. I used mini chocolate chips and added some M&Ms because I didn't have enough chocolate chips, then sprinkled the remainder of the chocolate chips on top. Delicious! Especially good if you like brown sugar (and the taste of peanut butter, mmm). I couldn't wait for them to cool... ate some of them directly out of the pan with a spoon. The batter tasted a little floury unbaked, but that seems to be resolved now.

Soft Sandwich Buns
MAKE THESE BUNS. Seriously, this is the recipe. Just stop looking and make them already. I've made a few other recipes and some of them were fine, but this is AWESOME. Make them and you won't regret it. I let them rise probably longer than one hour (but not by too much, I think) next to the stove where I was cooking sloppy joes, and mmmm. Perfect. They're just sweet enough to be delicious, perfectly bubbly, rise up nicely, fluffy and tasty and just dense enough to hold and not get soggy. Not get soggy with sloppy joes! And yet it's deliciously chewy!
