About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I'm a vegetarian so I love playing with new ideas and foods to find things that are both tasty and health-conscious without incorporating meat. My husband isn't veggie like me, so he's my true test of 'pass' or 'fail'!
My cooking triumphs
For a family get together I made a completely homemade meal with: homemade spinach ravioli stuffed with sauteed mushrooms; homemade fresh tomato sauce, homemade caesar salad (even homemade croutons!), and foccaccia bread. Plus a homemade cake of course!
My cooking tragedies
What possesed me I'll never know, but for my husband's birthday at my in-laws I made (wait for it) BEER cake for a birthday dessert. It was soooo awful even I couldn't eat it. We still hold it as the benchmark all time low as in "well, it could have been beer cake..."

Pecan Torte
I am the 'birthday cake baker' in our family, and I'm always looking for new and different cakes to try. I followed this recipe almost to the letter and it turned out great. *Note the second mention butter (one cup) is actually 1 cup of buttermilk. I also made the icing the day before, and it kept well in the fridge overnight. Overall a great cake - everyone loved it!

Garlic Jelly
I love garlic, and thought this would be interesting to try; unfortuantely it wasn't all I had hoped. Could be personal taste, but I found the garlic/sugar/vinegar mixture ended up tasting just like it sounds, and the flavours didn't blend nicely. I now have 12 jars of garlic jelly, and don't know what to do with it...

Spiced Sweet Roasted Red Pepper Hummus
This was a nice dip for appetizers, and went very nicely with veggies as well as pita wedges. Was a little bit thick - I added some olive oil to smooth it out a bit.
