About this Cook
I have been eating out for years. It's a hard habit to break but with a wonderful website like this it's getting easier and easier. I love to cook and I have found many new things to try!
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook soups and stews. I want to become an expert at something. I have decided it's not baking!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every spring, when it gets warm, I stop making chili. No matter how bad I am craving it, I don't give in. On Halloween night I get out my pumpkin soup tureen and we have chili and grilled cheese by candlelight.
My cooking triumphs
No matter what I cook, my boyfriend says "this is the best "whatever" I have ever had."
My cooking tragedies
None, really. I just know no matter how much I try, I just can't bake a from scratch cake. They are always dry!

Mexican Shepherd's Pie
This was very good and very flavorful. I almost followed the recipe. I added a can of seasoned pinto beans and I added a little cheese to the meat mixture. I also used 2 boxes of the corn muffin mix. The corn bread part is where this recipe needs so tweeking, for my family. We aren't used to eating sweet cornbread so this was strange for us. Next time I'm going to make my own cornbread. Also, I used a 13x9 pan and I think 2 boxes was too much. One box might be too little, I don't know. We had to scoop the filling out from under the cornbread. We had a lot (of cornbread) left over.

Fruited Ice Cream
I would have a hard time finding a recipe that was more disappointing, I think. I am still very upset I wasted my time, ingredients, and all that money! I followed the recipe, exactly, except I wasted some very delicious peaches. I even used top of the line ingredients! It was icy, not creamy AT ALL. Not sweet and the delicious peach flavor was somewhere in there but I couldn't find it. I have no idea what kind of ice cream everyone else likes but this one produced something that was no where near what I enjoy!

Juicy Roasted Chicken
It really turned out juicy! I had my doubts but it really worked. The flavor was fantastic. The skin looked so dry when I took it out of the over. The final step of basting it and letting it sit was the key to the excellent result. I will use this technique from now on!
