About this Cook
I am a full time college student at Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio. I am active in Fremont Community Theatre with my husband. We have a daughter who was recently married.
My favorite things to cook
pasta dishes, cookies & candies, homemade soups, Pie, Steak on the grill. beer can chicken on the grill.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Mom would make doughnuts and fritters for brunch on New Year's Day. My grama always made pie for dessert on Sundays. She always gave me the same dessert plate. When I was married, she gave me the plate. Sadly it was broken a few years ago. I have never seen another one like it.
My cooking triumphs
I make really good pie crust. I was asked once "How come Your crust is so much nicer than mine, when we use the same recipe?" I started to answer, but was stopped by my sister-in-love who said "No, do not tell. Everyone should have something that they do better than everyone else. In this family, yours is cooking." I would gladly share the information. My mom taught me to make pie crust. No matter what recipe you use, there is just one basic rule. DON'T FUSS WITH IT! The more you work a crust, the stiffer, harder, and less flaky it will be.
My cooking tragedies
The first time I ever made apple pie it was a disaster. The apples did not cook completely and it was watery instead of thick and juicy. The sad thing is it was for a family dinner. I was harshly criticized by two of the women of the family on "how it should have been done". They were quite rude. To this day I do not like to make apple pie. A dear friend understands my reasons and gave me a recipe that works nicely. I have made it once or twice, for her.
